Mazda MX5 crash at Croft - A lifetime ban surely?

The driver of the red MX5 deserves a lifetime ban surely - an unbelievably stupid and dangerous move.

Hard to say. On the face of it he moved over deliberatly pushing the guy off, but I would guess his excuse was he did not see him and started to pull over, when he realised he pulled sharply back but it was too late.

Race director would have been in a better position to judge.

There was absolutely no need for the red MX5 to pull right as he did on the approach to the right-hand Tower bend. On the face of it the guy deserves to be banned for a very long time.

The red car driver appears to look into his right hand mirror just before diving to the right.

He may not have seen him, but if you look closely at his head he appears to look to his right just before turning.

Exactly the sort of movement to suggest he was looking in his mirror.

A long ban would be my view.

Looks totally deliberate to me. Saw him in the mirror and he immediately moved over.

He possibly clipped the first car he sent onto the grass too.

As a racing driver I reckon the first thing you'd do having been balked by the guy in the white MX-5 is check your mirror to look for a likely overtake from behind.

I can understand frantic defending in the heat of the moment or even a misjudgement about how much space you were leaving. But I'm sorry I cannot even give this guy the benefit of the doubt, there is a clear and distinct look in the mirror (why else would you turn your head so far to the right in that situation? Then what looks like very deliberate steering movement, he didn't just drift over, he appears to have quite sharply steered over.

If I was in a position of power in that Championship, he'd be very quickly in front of whatever disciplinary committee was appropriate, and would need to do some serious explaining to avoid a lengthy (possibly lifetime) ban.

If I was the driver of the black car in this incident I'd also be showing the video to the police to see if there is any sort of legal case to answer. And frankly if I was the driver of the red car, whether the incident was deliberate or not I'd be ashamed of my standard of driving.

The driver denied any wrongdoing to the stewards and also claimed the only reason the white car left the track was due to a puncture...

That is exactly how I read it too.

Even if not deliberate, it is shockingly poor driving deserving of a ban to me. Two cars in two corners? I mean, I don't think I've seen skill like that since Maldonado.

I'm not one for OTT responses to 'racing incidents' but this one is hard (if not impossible) to defend. I think it's pretty obvious. Red car on the straight, looks in mirror, swipes sideways to defend position.
This is a long way away from a last minute lunge in a corner or excessive weaving which both can be put down to inexperience. This one was blatant and requires a substantial ban in my book (especially with the outcome for the other car).

Think perhaps he's a 'Death Race' fan..
