Barrichello back to F1?

Reported today that if Sauber sign Sirotkin they aren't keen to have an inexperienced line up, and apparenrly Rubens has a large personal sponsorship deal in place...

Would be good to see him back in the paddock to be honest. He never got to say a proper goodbye.

Please no. We need new exciting drivers not boring second rate drivers like him. I honestly can't remember an exciting race he was part of. He never was and never will be a Kimi an Alonso or a Hamilton, not even a JB. Nice but dim springs to mind.

A good guy, but F1 has moved on, and he is nothing new or worthy.

Even Massa is in the same boat, but it would be good to see what Massa can do with out the Ferrari weight on his shoulders.

Also- what happened to Petrov?

if he can bring the readies he will look more attractive than others for sure. . .not saying he should come back, but Sauber have had 'issues' in the cash register apparently, so this could work for a year, plus he has lots of experience. . . . and he was pretty quick . . . . . in the reasonbly priced car as i recall. . .

He won't be any worse than Chilton, or Sirotkin - a 18 year old Russian who hasn't even got a super licence yet, plus he's a genuinely affable character. If it comes down to his sponsorship keeping a team afloat I'd rather see him back than some random no-name.

He might be a bit second rate but most of the 'new' young drivers fuelled by cash seem third rate at best to me. I'd like to see Barichello paired with one of these cash rich youngsters and see if they really are any good, or if he drives rings around them.

Also a mid grid team are not expecting a Vettel/Kimi/Alonso/Hamilton/JB. They very rarely get the opportunity to run a driver of that level (especially if they are asking for money from the driver) so to compare Rubens to them makes little sense imo.

Reading between the lines, it looks to me like Bernie, understandably, wants to keep a Brazilian driver in F1. Consequently, he is helping Felipe organise a suitable sponsorship deal to get the Sauber seat, but if that falls through Rubi is being lined up.

Rubi is old; too old. It was a great shame we were never able to "say goodbye" to him but it'd also be a shame in this day and age for him to come back and take a slot that could be suitable for a young and upcoming driver. However, I have a massive soft spot for Sauber and if his funds keep thse Swiss boys afloat then it won't be all bad.

A side note, what is happening to Carlos Slims boys. The talk of Hulkenberg moving to McLaren would mean that Perez might be ousted, whilst Gutiérrez looks set to depart Sauber. Does Telmex not bring enough money in?

How Bernie chooses to decorate his nethers is his business, cannot see how Barry would be a good choice though.

Other than Sato. But yes, I'd love to see Kobi back in F1.

Barrichello is just too old now. The only up-and-coming Brazilian driver worth looking at is Felipe Nasr, who is in the Red Bull Junior programme. Perhaps Red Bull can loan him out to Sauber.

In a more serious tone, Massa is the most obvious choice here.

Hockenheim 2000, started 18th and won by driving better than everyone and making a big bked decision on tyres after the rain.

I've never been a huge fan and think his time in F1 is done but you either forgot, or never saw, that race. He was ballsey, fast and exciting. Period.

Experience is one thing, but the speed has clearly been and gone. Harldy garnered a point in any motorsport discipline since he left F1.
