Brands Dtm Ditched

I see on autosport that the Brands hatch round of the dtm has been dropped for next year. Not surprised as the track isnt ideal for the cars but also gutted as they are mighty cars and very impressive to watch.

I could never understand why they didn't run them on the full GP circuit. The Indy was far too small for DTM.

Is it really a huge loss – using the Indy circuit was a waste for these cars. Is it really showing them in their best light on a short tight circuit which allows virtually no overtaking? A pity Donington couldn’t have tried/afforded to host. But no DTM, WTCC... Which is the next major motorsport series to leave the UK?

Lack of run-off etc? I went a few years ago and I was amazed that they only ran on the short Indy circuit - it seemed like a total waste.

Great news its gone.
Cars totally unsuited to BH Indy, 98 laps of no over taking.
Plus the Germans love all the pomp and hanging around, VIP taxi rides (stuff the paying public, we must woo our sponsors)

This the track was to small for dtm, dtm is as boring as f1 aswel can't say I have ever watched a good race.

Let's hope they take down the catch fencing at Druids (which I believe was installed solely for DTM)

This, wasn't it the point of the 300 Circuit and messing up the profile of Coram?!

DTM is a very high downforce formula. The cars can't get close together like BTCC cars can, for example. You only really see overtaking on F1 style circuits, not traditional circuits. Like F1, you need a long straight and a big braking area, something Brands Hatch doesn't have in either format.

The racing is a bit boring but the sound and spectacle of the event is awesome!

All down to poor marketing and the crap support programme. I went in 2002 and enjoyed it, but there was a lot of hanging about watching nothing. Think there was the VW Cup and some historic F1 supporting over the three days and that was it. Quite a spectacle though and to see guys like Aiello, Schneider, Alesi, Winkelhock, Menu and the rest was a good experience.

Was never tempted by Brands though. Seeing the Champ Cars bore me to death round there in 2003 was bad enough. Even a BTCC driver said to me that he was at the DTM this year and it was all about the corporate side of things, rather than the racing.

The version that I heard was that to run the full GP circuit would have required a fortune to be spent on extra catch fencing to a point that it wasn't economically viable to have the event. The only UK venue that makes sense to me for the DTM would actually have been Silverstone - losing them from Brands Indy is no loss.
