Having endured and suffered yet another GP on Sunday, Thank god for the FF Button, I noticed the Senna film was being aired for the first time. I duly recorded it and watched it last night and the memories came flooding back and relealised how bland F1 had become. And for that matter how easy the cars are to drive nowdays.
Horner may preach how Seb is the best of all time, Dream on!
Senna in the present RBR car would not just be winning by 20 sec, He would be on the plane home!
I first saw Ayrton when he was a works DAP driver with Terry Fulerton,In the film Senna mentions TF as the best driver he ever raced against, and the moment he took to the track you knew he was something special.
Only a cracked engine sprocket robbed him of the WC that year.
But watching some of his drives last night were fantastic, His wet drive in the Toleman at Monte carlo, The same in the rain in the Lotus for his first GP win.
Stalling on the start for the decider at Suzuka and finishing the first corner in 16th place only to win and win his first Wc
Also i did net realise how much conflict he had Not only with Alain but also Balestrea.
The sight of Alain running from the chicane at Suzuka to race control to get him black flagged after he got the Mac back to the pits for a nose change and his then pursuit of Nanini, was classic,
The drivers briefing politics with Baley were a riot.
The film realy shows some very sad scenes, Poor Martin Donnely lying twisted in the middle of the track and Ayrton looking on and Ayrtons Funeral bought tears to my eyes.
Perhaps what really shows is total genius was winning his first home GP. In the lead he was stuck in 6th gear for the last 12 laps but as it was starting to rain he somehow dragged the car home for the win.
Sadly i do not think i will ever see another driver to capture the imagination as Ayrton de Silva Senna.

Having read around the Prost v senna stuff it misses the really interesting bits.
It's an entertaining enough watch. But mostly eye candy for folk with I heart Ayrton T shirts, and misses the interesting bits
