Now then chaps,
The last time I attended an RAC Rally (as it will always be to me...) stage was Oulton Park in about 1988. A return is long overdue. With that in mind, I'm heading over to the in-laws' place near Colwyn Bay and planning on hitting a couple of stages for this year's Rally of Wales.
Just wondering whether anybody could offer some advice or suggestions? Vague plan is to head to one or two of the forest stages on Saturday and then the Great Orme on the Sunday. We can't follow the whole event as we've got some socialising to do, but really fancy getting out into the forests.
So, what do you suggest and how do we go about achieving it?

If you do one of the first 2 stages on Saturday they are repeated so you get to see the wrc cars twice through before the national class cars. I'm toying with the idea of doing the first stage of the day and then jumping to the last stage, but that may require missing some of the national class cars so I may just stay for the whole first stage and play it by ear after thatThe last time I attended an RAC Rally (as it will always be to me...) stage was Oulton Park in about 1988. The Sunday plan I'm following is the only one where you can get 2 stages in without the hell on earth that is likely to be Kinmel Park. It does require a very early start unless like me you are sleeping in the car adjacent to your route into the stage. Can recommend the Orme, particularly if you walk to a good spot away from the pens.
Moribund's idea for Saturday is good if it fits your geography. Remember from either Dyfi or Garth it's a 2 hr drive to service and if you are slow leaving mid-Wales all the action is over by the time you hit Deeside

Cheers for the suggestions, chaps. I'm off to the Croft stages of the RAC next weekend as a bit of a warm-up. My last motor racing event was last weekend in 30deg Australian sun so I'm looking forward to sticking on my bobble hat and getting real again!
I'm all sorted for the Great Orme on the Sunday with my dad. It's five mins drive from the in-laws' place so that should be pretty simple. Any ideas on where/how to park and how early to get there? Only spectated the Cambrian Rally before at the Orme and that was free to view and easy to park in the town. I imagine the RofW is a bit more organised.
Saturday is more difficult. Mrs Chev fancies a forest stage but not sure she's up for a massively early start. Stage one looks good as it's repeated so maximum exposure to cars but would mean leaving Glan Conwy at someungodly hour. Any comments on the quality of the stages?

Maybe this is the endurance aspect of the rally...

Not for the early morning session. The first National rally car is due on Gartheiniog at 12:24 (http://www.walesrallygb.com/images/content/Route_1.4.1_National_3_Day_(10_October).pdf).
So the way I understand it your Saturday morning will look something like this:
WRC - Gartheiniog 1 - 08:30 to 09:00.
WRC - Gartheiniog 2 - 10:30 to 11:00.
National - Gartheiniog - 12:24 to 13:30 (about 60 cars I think at 1 minute intervals).
I suppose you still have a 90 minute gap between the last WRC car and the first National car.

64 entries in the WRC event (not just the WRC class cars) - so first 12 cars (if they all get to Saturday) at 2 min intervals then the next 52 at 1 min intervals - finish just in time for the 2nd run safety cars!

If you spectate from a position nearest the car park and don't have any slackers with you, it's possible to see the 2nd run of the WRC cars through Garth and still get to Dyfnant in time for the first car there. Gartheiniog 1

Good times! I'm free to go on the Sunday, and I've found someone to go with! Woohoo.
So where's the best stage to get to and get into on Sunday coming from Manchester? Preferably with a double pass. Not been for years, I used to spend 2 day chasing the rally around mid-wales, but to be honest we can't be arsed racing around, even if that used to be half the fun until the blocked the back roads, and just want to drive in as easily as possible in the morning and watch lots of rally cars blasting past!
I'm out of touch with where to go to watch having been a WRC armchair fan for many years now, apart from an "interesting" trip about 5 years ago when my bro took me to watch the inside stage at the Millennium stadium.

Andrew Coe, chief executive of IMS, the team behind Wales Rally GB will also be on hand to give everyone an insight into what goes into planning such an event.

The evening will be ticket only available from Monday 14th October. Priced at £11 plus a booking fee of £1, ALL Profits will go to the nominated charities. Tickets will be strictly limited to 210.

It still is My favourite memory is that there were at least 30 top line cars before the Gp N competitors appeared. Doesn't diminish my interest in WRC but I'm very glad to have lived through those times. ONE WEEK TO GO (shame I can't afford petrol to see the Roger Albert too.
