I've just bough the book 'The Death Of Ayrton Senna' by Richard Williams.
On the back sleeve is the famous quote 'Once Senna was accused of blocking an opponent. "but I am Senna" he said'. Now a god like Senna can get away with saying something like that, however the vast majority of drivers simply can't and end up sounding like t0ssers.
So the question is boys and girls, what is the most arrogant thing you've ever heard a driver say. Be it on tv, radio, assembly area or parc ferme. Come on spill the beans !

a quote that will stay with me for the rest of my life was when i went on one of those experience days back in about 1993, and some tool of a punter, said as we were jostling for position to get the best seat in the car for the demo laps, " i should go in the front coz i've got the biggest knob!"

i thought it was arrogance, pure and simple. wneh Kimi has half the number of victories that schumacher has he can say what he likes but until then, some respect is in order i think. he might hate the bloke but by saying that he was just being childish. a true champion shows respect to his opponents. Take the example of the photo of Senna, Prost, Piquet and Mansell sat on the pit wall together. They might have hated each other but they respected each other. Not that MS cared, he promptly put in one opf the best racing performances of hte last five years. blown tyre? what blown tyre!....

He didn't actually die from a Basilar skull fracture... although the HANS device would have saved him. He died from a broken neck.

One man's comedy genius is another man's juvenile crudity, I suppose.
FWIW, I'd say that Kimi's comment was a set-up, albeit Brundle did not appear to be in on the act.

Except that this was his last race for McL., he had been frustrated because they had been keeping him on a leash for the previous five years, he and his advisors had been deceiving McL. for a year about his Ferrari contract, so I doubt that at that point he cared a whit what McL. thought - except to want to embarrass them.
What struck me was the timing.
Brundle walked directly from the Schumacher award-giving over to Raikkonen. I doubt that much more than a minute had passed between his leaving Schumacher and his coming upon Raikkonen.
Yet when Brundle got to Raikkonen, the latter was leaning casually against a wall having a chat with his trainer.
I don't believe that enough time could have elapsed that KR could actually have been occupying himself in the loo as he claimed he had been, then pulled his suit back on, then walked out of the pit or hospitality area and around and over to the track side of the pit wall, and then assumed his Joe Cool pose before Brundle made his brief walk over from Schumacher to him.
Remember that, in addition to wanting to embarrass McLaren, Raikkonen also wanted to embarrass Schumacher.
In the event he mainly embarrassed himself, but that's how teenagers think.

Not necessarily arrogant, but a before the 2001 Daytona 500, Earnhardt also said..
"I think it's gonna be some exciting racing, gonna see something you'd probably never seen on Fox."
He got that right.
