Sounds like a degree of bitterness in there, though. I don't think anyone but the most ardent supporter of David would think that he would have taken a championship at McLaren in '98 or '99.

Sure Ron and Mika were close but much of that comes from Adelaide '95, just as Ron has a bond with Lewis because he's watched him grow up. If anything it just proves how human Dennis is.

What DC says there fits well with what I (and I'm sure everyone else) heard when Ron was interviewed after LH stuck it in the gravel trap in China.

"We weren't racing Kimi, we were racing Fernando"

Autobiography or not, I believe DC's story on this.

Oh gawd, not that again. Hamiltons stratergists were racing Alonso at the time, he was the only oposition stopping him becoming champion until he binned it. Alonso's strategists would have said the same thing had they been asked. Thats what happens in motor racing where the team runs more than one driver, unless you have a number 1 and number 2, like Ferrari had with Michael. It's not Rocket science.

Ron Dennis and his quote about DC ' brain fade ' caused him to crash out, sums it all up for me.

Later after the race, it turned out to be mechanical and not DC's fault at all.

Is that a good team principle backing his driving, I think not.

That's my two pennies worth.

Excellent point. Mind you, DC was never in the same class as MH and was lucky to be in the same team. When he started he showed great promise but never fulfilled it. He was probably the best journeyman driver of recent years. Team managers know what they get with him and, of course, what they don't get.

Mika gave me the impression of being able to be one of the all-time greats but he seemed to lack that edge. He certainly had the talent. What would you get if you mixed DC with MH? A better selling autobiography, that's for sure.

Oh dear. It was Ron responding to requests about the strategy the team were following with Hamilton. It didnt matter if they asked Ron, Martin Whitmarsh, Lewis himself or the tea lady, the reality of the situation was the same, Hamilton was racing Alonso to try and beat him.

That was the plan by the people who supply him with a car, give their drivers the best chance to win, whoever they are.

Had anyone asked Ron the same about Alonso, he would have answered in the same way, saying they were racing Hamilton, what else do you expect him to say?
