Was watching Eurosport2 last night and it had Champcar on it, ive never seen this series before it looked like GP2 cars racing around Top Gears track? the race surface looked rubbish and they were crashing all over the place!.

Some of the driving is Formula Palmer Audi. Champcar does have some fun races, however in the US it is regarded as 3rd tier racing and many of the drivers would struggle in British F3, let alone GP2.

This comment is utter drivel.
Champ Car is on the same level as IndyCar in the US, the two series are rivals, both are on a similar level to GP2 compared to F1, but they are the top level singe seater series in the USA.

As for the drivers, I'm sure Red Bull have signed three-time champion Bourdais for his 'F3 ability level'

Indycar has more top flight drivers because all of the teams based their seasons and budgets around the Indy 500 several years ago. Champ Cars (as in, the actualy cars) are a lot more interesting that the Indy versions.

Still about time the two series buried their differences and moulded together to make a series to rival F1 for overtaking and action though.

Quite a few Champ Car World Series drivers are F3000 graduates and ex-F1 test drivers.

I'd wager they'd do pretty good in British F3 and be at least competitive in GP2.

Although the Champ Car series is only a shadow of its former self, it is still a highly competitive series.

Looking at the list of drivers in the 2007 championship very few of them ever excelled in Europe or even in the US / Latin American championships. The races are lame, the technology very limited and the series is struggling to attract media attention / TV coverage / sponsorship.

IRL may be oval based but is doing better business and has much higher profile drivers and teams....look at who just wom the US series Dancing with Stars!!!!

Internal track politics has destroyed a truly competitive open wheel racing series and now drivers are going into NASCAR not open wheel racing which is a shame.

Is it? Without the Tony George's family fortune to prop it up it would be dead in the water. The reality is that even if you pool the two series' viewing figures, they're still worse than before the split.

I don't consider Dancing with the Stars to be an arbiter of success.

Bordais aside, Champ Car's line up includes Justin Wilson and Robert Doornbos, who have raced in F1, alongside drivers who would acquit themselves well in GP2, A1GP (and some of them have) and certainly the IRL.

What would happen if ChampCar let IRL run at 2 of their races--say Long Beach and Road America and IRL let ChampCar run at 2 of their races say Indy 500 and Watkins Glen?

It would certainly spur interest in both open wheel series and would elevate the competition.

Yep piss easy to drive, just like f3 cars mate :-), you may find it's harder than f1 to drive and it's far
more dangerous, the drivers are first class in any case.

They use paddle-shifts now, I think.

Yup agree, used to be a superb series before the tif and subsequent split. Fond memories of Mansell, Fitipaldi, Andretti(s) and Rahal all on same grid. Then Mr Blundell having a go and having quite good success.
