Outline 2008 Regs
Discussion
When the regs are confirmed they will be freely available, at the moment They are just going out to people that have requested them. The msa would prefer it that they dont go out at all until they have agreed them and added the 20+ pages of preamble to them <LOL>, but as there are people who really need them they've been sent out as soon as JR was happy with the framework.
As for the mailing list yep they need work. I'll look at setting up a proper list to which we can all subscribe to for updates, as there are currently too many fragmented ones with lots of people who are no longer interested in being on it there and the guys that want it missing
Cheers

When the TVRCC ran DL1s, larger brakes were given a weight penalty from the beginning of the season. Why then, if I am reading this correctly, are sequential gearboxes, which have been quoted as giving a 3+ seconds per lap advantage, ceramic brakes and launch control etc only going to be looked at halfway through the season. This will give an advantage to anyone in the lower classes possessing these items a points lead that may not possible to claw back. Cheers

Also, there may have been, allegedly, a certain amount of P/W figure massage being applied between calculation and publication, and this caused a lot of unrest and ultimately lack of confidence in the system.
However, as it looks like DL1s are back for 2008 we will all just have to go along with it. At least the optimistic among you with regard to 500bhp turbo cars will to some extent be comforted by the fact that your rantings were scurrilous and ill founded.
As Graham says, they can be of great use for analysing lap times and possible problems. If I had bothered to run mine last season I would have noticed the dramatic power decrease after the first meeting at Oulton last year and done something about it. As it was I didn't, with the result that the turbo was buggered after only 2 events, i.e. Rockingham. An avoidable expense, I now believe, if I had made use of the DL1. Live and learn, old dog new tricks etc.
Looking forward to 2008 season for sure now that the class B 5L V8s should be a bit closer.
Rgds, Tim.
PS Just a thought. If the 2/3rds driver rule is invoked for any reason, surely it should be 2/3rds of the drivers in the class involved, not of all drivers.

Tim, just out of interest, where did you hear a figure of 3 secs a lap quicker with a sequential box? Sounds excessive to me but would be interested to hear more. Cheers,
Steve
Evening Steve. I seem to remember something on this forum a couple of years ago when the sequential box idea for Tuscans/Sagaris was first mooted. Maybe it was JR promotional spiel when he had some for sale. However, after running a search the only thing I can actually find mentioning lap times is a piece by Racing Rod where he talks about Porche GT2s or something similar, and a direct comparison of a 2 sec per lap advantage over an H pattern box. So what's a second between friends. Steve
I don't think I could justify spending 6-8k on one of these boxes for my heap as I'm sure there are 2 secs a lap or more in the car, if only I could drive it better. We shall see in 2008 as hopefully I will be able to do more than 2 meetings and have a bit more incentive to get the best out of it. I have a 1/2 decent motor but it has always suffered tremendous overheating problems, and as such I have always had to race the second half on the temp gauge rather than lap times. I resited the radiator and intercooler after Rockingham and it ran much cooler at Croft, for about 6 laps anyway, then the boost was showing 45psi, which was just before it set on fire and then showed nothing. Engine temp was much lower though so that was a positive, as opposed to the negative from the bank account to pay for a new one. Always look on the bright side of life eh?
Rgds Tim.
