Demotivated and frustrated
Discussion
Is it just me or do other newcomers and to the series and racing feel the same?
Still no firm race dates, no firm regs and a change in the series name twice (not helpful if youre dealing with sponsors...)
Suppliers that can't deliver in timescales they promise and maybe aren't as honest as they could be in their communications.
Yesterdays date changes with the back-up that they are still not firm come as a real sickener and take me to the point of thinking I'll just finish building the car and see what other series' there are I can compete in.

Im sorry to hear you feel that way and understand your frustrations, Unfortunately this year inst unique.. The dates in british motor sport always take forever to come out. John Really cant do much about that as its down to how the BRSCC negotiate with the circuits and we then get offered whats left, and we are a fair way down the food chain..
I think The name only changed again as people moaned about Tuscan and Sagaris Challenge So looks like John cant win really...
I always get demotivated and frustrated during the winter anyway, I think its a lack of racing, and the cold nights... Then there is the sudden realisation that that the 5 months you had to build / rebuild your car has evaporated and there are only a few weeks left..

I understand Graham, but its not just a Winter thing, it's a genuine frustration thing. I think The name only changed again as people moaned about Tuscan and Sagaris Challenge So looks like John cant win really...

I work overseas and need to plan quite carefully how much time I spend in the UK, and then, what I do with it. Cadwell was to be the first race at a circuit I know well, I probably won't get there now as a consequnce of the date change - similarly one or two others.
I start to question the point in driving in a series where I can not get to many of the races and when closer racing (With a Class C Car) could be be had eslewhere.
Welcome to the world of motorsport.
I'm afraid that this level of uncertainty is completely normal for this time of year in UK club racing.
One of the things that makes the highs so good is the amount of sheer hard work, sacrifice and bloody mindedness that gets you out in the first place.
I don't think you will find it any different in any other UK club series, and its not John's fault. The BRSCC do seem to have dropped a clanger this year in making their big announcement about their version of the Powertour last Autumn and now back tracking. But date and circuit uncertainty is completely normal.
Doesn't make it any less frustrating, but no-one said it would be easy....

Thanks for the welcome, but it's a little overdue, 22 years..

No one is pointing any fingers at anyone but it's more than dates that cause frustration, no firm regs yet! - maybe less of a problem for the high fliers of class A, but class B and C have had to eventually proceed building or modifying cars on heresay and an eventual e-mail that still lacks verification only 3 months from the "possible" first race date...doesnt look very proffesional I'm afraid.
And the series wants to attract new blood.
Folk would I'm sure find life easier if there was more transparancy.
You should also remember that this year is a transitional Year, which should see us with things set in stone for the next three years. We combined the series together to build things back up, and then for this season needed to tighten things up to give a level playing field. That does take time. no excuse just an explanation.
If you are concerned about a particular point then you need to Talk to John Directly as he makes all the decisions, I Just make suggestions to john and then pass on information from him
Cheers

To be honest Graham, I am no longer concerned. Just proceeding with the build with the aim to be testing early March. If the regs change to the point the car needs to move class or it needs further expenditure or change, Í wont be registering for the series. (I assume the registration forms will be accompanied by the final regulations...or is that a silly assumption?)
Question.
Is there a forum (Yahoo group?) that others know about other than this for getting info - maybe one that John posts on?
Well I'm looking forward to it, did not realise how much time and money it would take, but that's just the learning curve.
Graham Could have not told us anything until he was 100% but as giving us provisional information as he gets it. and has all ways said it may change. 90% of what has been said has not changed. esp. the all the reg's for class C. Plus I can't see the PTW changing this year, else they will not have any class C cars, so any changed will be very minor. and would think most would be to do with meeting any FIA rules that have come into force.
We would all like to have set in stone, but as said a lot if it is the hands on BRSCC.
I would be good to have a M series car in the pack, so there is a greater range of cars, and proves that TVR have always made competitive cars.
As far as I know your running a 3.0 V6 so in class C you have the least reg's to worry about No PTW ratio or the need of a logger.
On a plus note you should be pleased you have a sponsor you need to worry about. most of us are paying for it out of our own pocket.

I'm looking forward to it also, but now slightly less so. I am not pointing any fingers, and I appreciate the information needs to be carefully given out - my gripe is the lack of appatent apprectiation that information also needs to be given in a taiemly manner for folk building cars for the series. Tje first suggestion on this site that we needed regs was in August last year.
I'm fairly certain the M will be at some of the rounds, and it will be running a 3.1L V6 (still to be accepted at JRs descretion, but being built).
So....... I do still have the regs to conider, I may yet need to scrap a good block and look for new forged pistons or decide to accept that I run a very very uncompetitive car in class B rather than a reasonably competitive car in Class C.
No plus note either - I do not have a sponsor. It comes firmly out of my pocket.

There is not reason why you can't run class C, and just run a data logger. as said it's only going to be about £550, and will give you a lot of other benifits. will be cheeper than a new block.
I'm not sure why unyone would be unhappy about having to run a logger.

I looked at sponsorship and had some offers, but I can just afford to do it myself (as long as budget demands don't move too much) and still enjoy it, To give something back to sponsors seems to much like a work relationship, and the racing will be to get away from work.
I was having a winge and Andy has probably it the nail on the head when he said its all money going out and no fun atm!!!!!!
Set-backs with date changes lead to frustrataion.
I think The only thing I'm piss off about, if the offer for help before I started that have not come.
The help I have received, has gone from people I least expected. Also had a lot of help and encouragement from the guy on here.
I don't think I'll be ready for cadwell either, but will get out at some point.

Last year, 2007, right up to the final date changes I could do most of the meetings, again due to work commitments. I forked out the usual over the winter, i.e. time and money, engine rebuild, paint job, new cup holder, only to find that when the dates were finally published I could only do the first 2, Oulton and Mallory. Peed off to put it mildly. To take time off work for a Sunday race meant getting off the ship Friday and not being able to rejoin until Tuesday, and even that had to have the full cooperation of my opposite number who had to take my place. What looked like being a good season turned to dust overnight, so I can fully understand your frustration. I did a few rounds in the Northern Ssloons run by the DDMC and was made most welcome, as you would be in the saloon champs series in the SE. There is always somewhere else to go and have fun if the TVR series dates don't fit.
Hopefully I may be in a better position to do more races this year as I have changed companies and have a very supportive oppo but I must say I totally lost interest in 2007, and it showed on track. I only really showed my face when possible to help with numbers so I did make a very small contribution to the series.
If it's the racing your after as opposed to pot hunting, mix and match other series to suit yourself and just have some fun, and maybe 2009, with a year behind you and a fully sorted car, would be your year.
Best rgds Tim

I dont think you could ever be accused of only making a small contribution to anything chap
and that extra effort last year helped us to secure Full Championship status for this season.
Hope to catchup during the season
