Pack for all weathers. It'll rain even if there's a heatwave forecast.
Be prepared to walk through woods, and it's steep in places. Silverstone's lovely and flat - Spa isn't. Some of it was like scaling K2!
When you get there, make sure you stand at a suitable spot to watch them going through Eau Rouge - it really is a lot steeper than it looks on the telly!

Ear plugs are the best thing you can take!!
As for the circuit, walk around, explore, and do all your shopping on the Friday as it's the quietest day. On Saturday they start clamping down on which ticket holders go where, and on Sunday you just can't move. It also takes a while to get in (both driving and at the gate) so arrive early for anything you want to see, especially on race day.
Food wise, it's fairly limited to waffles, chips with mayo and burgers which was fine for me (!) but I did take a few bits with me to save me getting out of my seat and queuing, especially race day.
The traffic was bad on most days as the circuit wasn't that well sign posted. It didn't help that the local police changed the one way system for race day which confused everyone! It took us hours to get out on the Sunday, and 8 hours in total to get to Brussels from leaving the circuit, so don't make any dinner reservations on the Sunday night!!
As with most circuits, pick pockets operate but I didn't experience anything. I did see a guy who wore his ticket on a lanyard around his next, but had it cut off whilst in a crowd, so tuck it away out of sight once you're inside.
Toilets were basic portaloos but you can't expect the ritz really. I took some no-water hand wash stuff with me which helped me get over some of the horrible sights I faced floating in the blue lagoon below!!

Sarah - interesting it took you so long to leave. We made it back to Calais for a 10pm Chunnel after Spa this year. I guess it depends on where you're parked.
We were on a coach and they parked all the coaches so they blocked each other in (maximum capacity, maximum pain!) We arrived early so were at the back and couldn't leave until other coaches in front had gone, so it took us an hour just to get out of the coach park. After that the traffic was nose to tail all the way to the motorway and beyond. I think there may have been a few accidents too which didn't help.My dad is a bit of a "map geek" and was suprised at the route our driver took, and he seemed to be letting everyone and his dog out in front of us too!!
I'm not sure which route other nationalities would have used to get back to their respective countries but the road back to Blighty seemed a better option!!

i did the wrong thing and went through the F1 website (then expedia).Who did you book your tickets with/through?

i very much doubt this is the cheapest, but im paying £505 flights (from Bristol) hotel (Thurs to Mon) and Silver 1 grandstand tickets

Thanks for that, as it happens I will be camping, so am looking for a site. I was going to phone the F1 campsites, which looks from the advert a good option with transfers to and from the circuit.
Any one any experience with these, or can recommend a good site?
We stay at Eau Rouge Camping for the FIA GT's http://www.eaurouge.nl/ it's a bit of a walk into the circuit but you don't have to worry about buses etc.

We camped on the local footie pitch about 5 mins walk from the hairpin entrance. Plenty of bars within stumbling distance between tent and circuit plus piping hot showers courtesy of the teams changing rooms!
