Looking for a trailer

I am looking to purchase a trailer for this season. I will work my way through the PH classifieds. autotrader, ebay etc, however if you have, or know of anyone selling something suitable for a Griff, could you let me or Tony Hockin know.

Ideally 14ft, twin axle and braked.

Ive noticed that the used prices on 1-2 year Old Brian James trailers arent far off the new price ex-vat.
Beofre I commit to one of these does anyone else have other recomendations?
If I go for the Brian James, I am thinking of speccing the flat bed, tyre rack, storage box.

anything else I should think of before its too late?

be careful we bought a brian james,they are great trailers but
there are lots of different types,lengths,widths,load capacity,variations,
the one we bought was fine for the tasmin but when i put the griff on it i
could not open the doors because of the side sill and mud gaurds,also get one with a filled in base as the tasmin is now rotten underneath after a few wet
trips.
do your research and don't buy a cheap trailer!!

Getting the center section filled is a good idea, A) it stops the car getting covered in quite so much crap, and B) stops you tripping up and breaking your leg !!!

Somewhere to put fuel securely on the trailers is good I dont like jerry cans in the tow vehicle..

Woodford Trailers used to be better value for money than Brian James - they included many of the items as standard that BJ charge as extras. Things might have changed now as that was in 2003.

A winch is a must. Rear stands. Hitch lock. Spare wheel. LED lights would be good, bulbs always seem to blow regularly for some reason.

if you get a flat bed beaver tail, you get none of the problems listed.

easy to drive on/off, no fouling.

The new Brian James A-Max is an excellent trailer. Nearly 2 meters wide and low mudguards so no problems opening the doors. You can get centre decking and long ramps too. Pretty good value and tows quite nicely.

If towing an open topped car then opening the doors is not an issue.

I did loads of research in 2003 and Woodford came out best for me. I have little doubt that Brian James make an excellent trailer, but they were very expensive in comparison. I also got a discount on the Woodford which BJ would not entertain. And they chucked in the ratchet straps for free. BJ told me that Colin McRae had just ordered a trailer and he didn't get a discount... Things may have changed, that was 5 years ago

Do lock the thing up properly though. They are sought after by people who don't wish to pay for them...

On the basis that there isnt much saving on new v used I have ordered a new Brian James A max.

I spoke to them yesterday and they can get one to me in 3 weeks as they have a " cancelled order"

Spoke to woodford as well and they said up to 6 weeks and there wasnt a huge difference in price in the end.

I recommened brian james wholeheartedly .. Paul Stockport dealt with me a couple of years ago when I was looking for a trailer and the buying experience was faultless .. I couldn't have been better looked after had I been buying a Bentley or Aston Martin.

When you consider that well looked after BJ trailer is still probably worth 80% of it's new value secondhand they are almost an investment!
