Superlicence cost goes up from 2008

The FIA has increased the cost of a Formula One superlicense from 2008, this week's Autosport magazine reports.
A superlicense is mandatory for an F1 driver, and last season it cost only 1,690 euros, plus an additional 447 euros per point scored in the previous year's championship.
However, the World Motor Sport Council recently approved a major increase in the license price, to 10,000 euros plus 2,000 euros per point.
This means world champion Kimi Raikkonen's superlicense will cost him 230,000 euros - an increase of 199,255 euros compared to 2007.
The total bill for both Ferrari drivers will now be 428,000 euros, who together scored 204 points last year, will now be 428,000 euros.

Presume the teams pay these fee'a anyway.
Like the car, you need to be provided with one in order to race.
If Schumacher, or even Montoya, had wanted to retain their superlicences after their contracts had run out, they would have had to pay the tens of thousands themselves.Presume the teams pay these fee'a anyway.

If Schumacher, or even Montoya, had wanted to retain their superlicences after their contracts had run out, they would have had to pay the tens of thousands themselves.Presume the teams pay these fee'a anyway.

They've just cut off another source of revenue for the small teams - remember the Israeli and Russian test drivers Minardi(iirc) used - I'm sure they provided no useful information tooling round, seconds off the pace in their test sessions but I bet they (or their sponsors) paid handsomely for the pleasure.Why they would want to do this escapes me? makes being a test driver chuffin expencive...

Could it be to get funds from the people earning £1,000,000's out of motorsport to avoid increasing the costs at club level and incourage people to take part in the sport or is that just being optirmistic?
If I am not mistaken, the FIA recently awarded itself a $100,000,000 bonus for its contributions to motorsport, the monies to be paid by the teams (or was it by just one of them...

Hate to be blunt but on the list of things to worry about in the world, forgive me if this isn't particularly high on the list

They will spend that much just getting to the circuit.
