The World Rally Championship is no ordinary race - and the turbocharged monsters that compete are no ordinary rally cars.

Regardless of road surface, these machines can accelerate from 0-100kph in around three seconds and achieve top speeds of 220kph. Add to the mix a series of unforgiving terrains and they face one of the toughest challenges on the planet. We just had to get them on Dave. Obviously.

Our first dose of diesel screams into view on Sunday 20th January at 6pm, and you can catch World Rally 2008 every Sunday at 6pm throughout the rest of the year.

Each exclusive hour-long show will feature coverage of the championship, as well as highlights, previews and behind-the-scenes footage of every stage.

Good shout, will tune in for that.

So where does 'Daves' coverage leave what used to be on Itv and eurosport?

Dave's coverage replaces the ITV effort which was aired on ITV4 last year. Going from the letter in this weeks Autosport Dave actually has for more viewers than ITV4 as well.

And so far the coverage appears to be good. As in specifically shot for uk viewers, with a presenter who appears to understand/care what he is talking about.

  • Fingers crossed *

It was a great program, really looking forward to this years WRC. So is it an hour every week there is a rally on? Completely missed what has been going on in the rally for a few years due to the sproadic/stupidly late coverage!

Sad seeing Colin McRae in a lot of the shots too.

Cheers

I have to stand out from the crowd and say that the WRC show on Dave was absolute arse IMHO. There was very little to differentiate it from the ITV4 shows before it, except for an even more clueless presenter! It seems they just grab a skeleton show from the FIA/WRC feed the same as ITV did and just put some clueless presenter in the gaps between rally footage to make up the show fill an hour slot - even the titles are exactly the same as they always were!!

I want Tony Mason back on the telly doing the WRC commentary!

OK, how about someone who could tell what a Mk2 Escort was when they saw one, or know what left-foot braking is....

The dribbling idiot presenting the WRC show on Dave couldn't even manage to look at Malcolm Wilson when he was asking him a question in the interview.

Also, they had an hour to preview the 2008 WRC season and they thought a 5 minute section on the presenter and Matthew Wilson racing a couple of RC trucks around the workshop was worth including? FFS!

i think that is because David Richards (yes that tt face from poodrive) owns all the global TV rights to the WRC, he decides what is shot and what is aired and then sells it on to the highest bidding TV channel who do what they can with it.

biggrinclap Dave is my favourite digital channel with all those Top Gear repeats. Now that they have the rights to the WRC it should be worth watching. I think we'll see a lot of features about Matthew Wilson. Not a bad thing since we need to "Big Up" a British WRC driver after the loss of Colin McRae and Richard Burns.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Sundays at 6pm.cloud9

When TopGear is back, will there be anything car based between 7 and 8?

yes
More coverage is welcome, so I'm not going to jump on them after one program. But it could have been rather...erm...better.
The bit with Mat Wilson was more like MTV Cribs than anything WRC related. "Look at me, daddy's got a helichopper". furious
Jeeze...still, the second half was better. Still very "lite" though.

I managed to see the programme last night.

I didn't like the first part of the show, introducing people to rally. It was too basic, especially as most of the viewers if not all know about the WRC. It was not in prime time slot appealing to newbies.

The presenter is OK, he has toned things down from the fun rally preview show he used to present on TV. So he does have background rally knowledge (and I did spot him at WRC Finland 2 years ago).

Team comments about Monaco and the new tyre regs. were interesting.

I remember when rally switched to ITV4, we all moaned. We will be used to the new format soon enough.

After the show I was left wondering, was one of Chris Atkinson's parents a squirrel?

Didn't he sell his right to the rights some time ago?
