Quick shift system for Busa. But which one?
Discussion
Hi Guys
I am building a Caterham with a Hayabusa engine and would really like to get a paddle type gear changing system. I am not too keen on buttons because I am worried about pressing the wrong button at high revs and wrecking the engine and I think there’s less chance of me doing this with a paddle type system. Also the car will need a SVA test so buttons covered by the SVA pad on the steering wheel is not an option!
I want to get a system that interrupts the ignition on the up change and blips on the down so it can be a clutchless drive until I come to a stop.
I have seen the Pro Shift stuff but @ £2000 its a little steep in price for this already expensive project. I would however buy their paddle set if there was a push button type set I could buy for a good price.
Give me some ideas if you can or any links to websites that offer this would be great too.
Thanks in advance
Jason

I can't help you if you're desperate to have an engine interrupt, but my racing car has a direct-link paddle shift on a fireblade engine. Above 3rd you get clutcless up changes like you do on a bike, going down it's good ol' heel-and-toe, which I love. There's a pic on my blog. racing-dan.blogspot.com
We have used http://www.timmason.co.uk/index.php I believe he does just what you're looking for.
Tell him I sent you, you won't get a discount, but you should get a little more attention.

My busa came with a trickshifter fitted on paddle change, I couldnt get away with it ,dunno If my system was a bad one but I didnt think you could get enough leverage with your fingertips resulting in finding false neutrals, I swapped back to normal gearstick with the trickshifter and it works very well, never missed a gear since, upshifts are quick and blips everytime on downshift, I wouldnt be without it as I reckon blipping will help the life of the gearbox. The Guy at Trickshifter is very helpful, Ive had mine rebuilt this year and he turned it round same day.
