Out of date harnesses

If i wanted to use a set of harnesses on the road and they were a few months out of their FIA date, would this be an incredibly stupid thing to do? Or are they likely to be safe for a year or two?

How often do they replace the normal belts in a road car?

I wouldn't use a second hand harness that you don't know the history of, but if it's not had to deal with a heavy crash then like Flemke I'd happily continue using it (even on the track, if it were still allowed) until it became damaged.

If you want a set of out date belts.
We have a Sparco single seater 6 point harness (exp Dec 2007), unshunted..! the main difference to a saloon kit is that the shoulder mtgs are very close to the driver. Not sure what your fitting them to, but if they are of any use, a drink and they are yours.

Currently they have very little but do have a 2003 MAN 18:463 XXL TG-A 4x2 and a 2001 DAF XF95-430 Super Space cab.

The DAF cannot be fortunes as it is now going on 7yr old and 790,000km

my schroth harnesses ran out end of 2007, ill be happy to use them for track days etc. its not like the stitching or something has a self destruct at a certain time...

i have a 3" 6 point red momo (could be sabelt) set if you still need some, never used, barely been out of the box as they changed the stage rally rules before the car was finished and they were instantly out of date.

personally i would avoid ex rally harnesses, they tend to get a harder life without major impacts, unless as already stated you have some providence with them - like the 2 sets of 3" belts i'll have to change next year.

It all depends on wether they have been stored or not.

The FIA regs on time are mainly to do with the fact that Ultra Violet rays break down and damage plastic. Its why your clothes pegs snap.Modern seat belts are made from polymers.
If they have been kept in a box or out of light they will be fine. If they have been in a car exposed to UV rays for a few years then they will be suspect.
