I was listening to Si and DC on TheTour pod cast the other day (www.thetour.org.uk), Si was saying that the V8 supercars are the best touring car series, I would have to agree with him on that one
I hope one day they will bring the series over for a Eurpoean round, I would make sure I made that

Then the F1 in melbourne in march 2002, I had the full 4 day ticket and a grandstand seat at the pitlane exit. Got a great view of shumacher junior going airborne! very few finished that round as I recall!

I remember surfers, motor racing and the 'usual' going ons - say no more just checked out your website, great pictures. You would love Bathurst, you can get some great shots there, especially at the top of the 'hill'
(the off track action is worth some pictures as well )BTW, how do you manage to get a photographers pass to take those shots? Always liked the idea of trying my hand at a few meetings.
I did Melbourne for the Australian GP and Surfers for the Champcar/V8's in 2004! Backpacking too! They were absolutely superb, specially round the streets of Surfers... oh the noise!!!!
Thinking about doing the Singapore GP this year, then heading to Melbourne for the Moto GP @ Philip Island, then up to Bathurst for the V8's then on to Surfers... 4 events over 5 weeks... awesome! Heck, you only live once....

I dont mind them the racing this year has been ok. But the second half of the last race yeasterday was really boring. They were just circulating really. To be fair i suppose thats unavoidable in a one make series(im aware holden an ford take part) and some of the racing early on was very hard fought and fair. Im not sure if id prefer them to have more domforce and stickier rubber more along the lines of of DTM or super GT cars. They just seem a bit crude compared to other touring cars. I had this debate with a mate the other day and we decided that it wont happen cause if more downforce and grip was added the run across the mountain would be intense due to the increased apex speeds and there's no way they would do anything to endanger that race. Overall i quite like them.

The comparitive crudity is all part of their appeal. You make them to technological and it becomes just another engineering over driving motor sport. Boring for spectators.
Wildly regarded as one of best touring car series and with damm good reason. I;m not a V8 fan, but even I like them and watch them in preference to F1 any day of the week

I just turned up and asked a few years ago!, (you need insurance though).I supply pics for the circuit so they let me wander freely now which is great.

The package is spot on, IMHO - massive air dam and rear wing. That's all you need really, no need for front scoops and diffusers and gills.Ta
Just look at DTM - a ridiculously small amount of BHP from a V8 with the silly aero/bodykit that they use. No wonder they resort to banging into each other off the road!
They should bring back Group A tourers back and use the Aussie V8 formula

V8 Supercars have 5 litre engines with up to 650bhp and weigh 1355 kg. Various standard components on them too, including the Holinger gear box.
I don't call 480bhp from a normally aspirated 4 litre V8 'ridiculously small amount of power', and the DTM cars are quicker than the V8 Supercars.
They are just very different series, I don't consider one to be better than the other although personally I prefer the V8s to watch

I do respect the uniqueness of the two cars - as a petrolhead all types of race cars is car porn - but can't help but think DTM as glorified protoypes. The drivers say it handles more like a single seater which is a sin coming from a touring car purist perspective.
I was at Brands last year and the racing was no different to a dull single seater race on the Indy track.
And when DTM cars come together they don't seem to take knocks too well with out aero aids falling off and being punted off, which again seems a bit wrong from a purists perspective.
Having said all that, a DTM is a unique piece of machinery, much like Super GT which again is car porn with various cars and aero bits (I do like how the Japs sculpt the wheelarches as an aero aid!)
