I just knew Piquet would be Useless
Discussion
He is CRAP - have watched him alot in F3 and GP2 (top 5 guy, with occasional top 3), rubbish at overtaking, often punting people off in desperate move, not real natural top line skill of the Nico's and LH's (he will be DESTROYED by Alonso) - which is Good. Cos they might get someone better in the car! Davidson......
I'd say even Webber is better than Piquet and he in lucky to be in F1!

Aside from the British F3 championship he won in 2004...Ah yes the F3 season - One HUGE Team JUST for him, then they pulled up sticks and took it to Gp2 and he did next to nothing. Maybe Bourdais for his seat
or Vettel (cos they are going to have to start looking about

Daddy I want to be a racing driver.....(OK Son, no problem....).

The name has got him into F1. Not in the same class as the other recent GP2 graduates, Nico, Lewis and even Speed and Glock.

You truly are spouting drivel. The fact that Renault had a problem getting his car out for qualifying left him on the back row seems to have gone over your head.
Judge him after a handful of races, or even a full season, rather than on a single event.

Wasn't a huge team, it was made up of about six guys, all of whom were from Brazil and managed to make the Carlin team look ordinary that year. And yes, they pulled the team to GP2 as that was where he went next, strange that. In his debut year in GP2 (2005) he took one win, one second and three thirds, that's five trips to the podium from 11 rounds. Not bad really.
or Vettel (cos they are going to have to start looking about
).As I said before, he was runner up to Hamilton a year later, the only guy to get near him and he dominated the first half of the season. 4 x wins, 4x second places and 5 pole positions.
You really are digging yourself a hole here.

Let see how he goes against Alson then shall we. 1st race against A, (and the rest of the field) - Pants.

Where are the guys he beat in F3 then (as your seem to like digging out all this).
Lets discuss this a bit more post Malaysia

It's too early to judge. He looks bad at the moment, but keep in mind that this is his debut season and he's just done one race.
He was impressive in the 2004 British F3 season. The competition was quite good:
Adam Carroll (GP2)
Lucas Di Grassi (Macau GP winner, GP2)
Alvaro Parente (2007 WSBR champ, GP2)
Marco Asmer (2007 UK F3 champ, F1 tester)
Will Power (Champ Cars 2006 rookie of the year, 4th in 2007)
... all did the full season with him.
He put a good show driving for Brazil in the A1GP too (2 wins, 1 second, 2 thirds).

I'lls tand by what I think. He will not get close to Alsono in the same car. I am not going to look at stats for this. His racing abilities area no where near LH's (2nd in GP2 does sound good) but really he was no where that year vs LH.

You ought to be looking at drivers and their respective talent rather than grid girl images. As I wrote above, he dominated the opening half of the GP2 season in '06, before Hamilton came into his in the second half of the year.
As for his rivals in F3... err, I don't get what you're trying to achieve, as he beat them, but anyway.
Adam Carroll - Was on the Honda F1 test driver roll for a while, just recently won Team Ireland's first A1GP race.
James Rossiter - Was (still might be) the official test and reserve driver for Super Aguri F1 team
Will Power - Racing in Champ Car last time I looked
Danilo Dirani - Was doing Champ Car feeder series up to 2006
Clivio Piccione - Did World Series by Renault in 2007
Danny Watts - Last year raced at Le Mans and in the Le Mans Series with Team LNT and was asked to drive the Team GB A1GP car
Be interesting to see where he is after the fly away races and gets onto tracks he knows well too.
i sort of agree with Jellison although it is too early to judge. Whilst he came second to LH in GP2, he was beaten by a rookie, whereas he was in his second season, so really the advantage should of laid with Piquet. Piquet's problem isn't his talent - he is good - its the fact that he is an absolute arrogant t
t, whilst at the same time being totally insecure, its his head ( mind games) that'll stop him progressing not his talent.
however he does remind me of the people you meet who are the son's of successful fathers, but don't have the work ethic and seem to think they can walk into running the company when daddy retires. (and generally f
k it up)
imho.

Worth remembering that Heikki Kovalainen also had a very poor start to the season last year.
I remember Flavio being very uncomplementary about him for the first few races, then he got his act together and gave Fisichella a good beating for the rest of the season.
At the very least give Piquet the benefit of the doubt until after, say, Silverstone.
Then we can *all* say how rubbish we thought he was...

Not sure you can really judge someone on junior series results in isolation. Can't remember Damon Hill setting the World alight in F3000, but he did ok in F1. Zanardi did nothing in F1, but was awesome in Champcar. There's a whole plethora or drivers who looked great in F2/F3000 but did nothing (or less than expected) in F1 (Jean Alesi springs to mind), so I'm not sure you can draw too many conclusions to be honest. I'm sure his surname helps, but I don't think it's the sole reason he has the seat.
Piquet seems a little like another Pizzonia, from what I've seen of him. If he's on his own he can lap very quickly and run away with a race if he isn't challenged, but put him a little further down the grid and it all starts to fall apart. Pizzonia could be utterly stunning in F3 if he was on pole, but would make countless errors when he had to fight for position.
They both have the driving ability, but the mental strength under pressure is wanting.

RaceFan - your really do Over analysis this stuff. It is not JUST the odd win or a championship (against F3 drivers that have since non next to nothing).
On the above:-
Adam Carroll - Very Good Driver - Better than Piquet IMHO
James Rossiter - Heard of him - not much else.
Will Power - Heard of him - not much else.
Danilo Dirani - Heard of him - not much else.
Clivio Piccione - ???
Danny Watts - Heard of him - not much else.
Lucas Di Grassi (Macau GP winner, GP2) - Don't rate him, did nothing in F3 and a very lucky win last yr in GP2
Alvaro Parente (2007 WSBR champ, GP2) - Heard of him - not much else.
Marco Asmer (2007 UK F3 champ, F1 tester) - Seen him race, just through it into overtakes either hits the other car or just makes it through 50/ 50. Alot of drivers like this now!

Indeed - and did you see Brundles assessment of the Kid - He absolutely Loathes him (almost spitting feather when asked about him), he think he is symptomatic of every thing bad about rich kid racers with average talent. The complete opposite of Nico.
