What, in your opinion is the worst race track ever built/used?

A couple of ideas:

The Las Vegas GP track from the late 1980s - surface broke up in the heat.

Losail (in Qatar), makes MotoGP boring by being overly twisty (even for motorbikes) and having only one overtaking point at the end of the start-finish. I'm so glad their renovating it for F1 racing/testing, may actually make it better.

the hungaroring is awesome for spectators, general admission tickets are dirt cheap and you can see a good bit of the track from the side of a hill. no concrete like silverstone and the weather in budapest in august is nice!

my vote would be for the phoenix street circuit used in the early 1990s.

Anything Herman the german built apart Turkey. Singapore were smart to have him only do the initial concept and have the Company that was responsible for Adelaide and melbourne do the rest.

Yep, never understood why they had to cram it into such a small space.

Monaco - Back in the day when cars were smaller and less advanced is was quite a good track, now it is a procession, but i'd wait to see what the 09 aero rules throw up. Its also the showcase for F1 and the one the sponsors all want to see. You could never drop it from the calender as its so iconic and has so much history.

Hungaroring - For F1 its boring, but did you see the Gp2 race there last year? Great racing biggrin. Wait for next year and it'll be better.

Interlagos - I think its ok, the facilities are a bit dire iirc, but they've said that its going to be renovated, also its the only track in S.America (let alone Brazil) that can run F1.

Le Mans Bugatti - It got a bit of a poor reception at the time becuase places like Reims and Rouen were still in existence. Its a good MotoGP track and imo it would be better than Magny-Cours for the French GP.

Castle Coombe - Heresy! Thats a great little track.

As has been said, criticism of the Bugatti circuit should be taken in the context of the other GP venues in use in 1967 (the year the French GP was held at Le Mans).
In those days, the full length Nurburgring and Spa were still in use. Reims was never used for the GP after 1966 but Clerment Ferrand and Rouen were still available and used for a few more years.

In my opinion, GP racing began changing utterly when the move away from closed road tracks to purpose built circuits became virtually complete.

Monaco is the only closed road track left in use in F1 and should be retained for that reason alone.

I don't care much for most of the tracks bult since the 70s as they are all "autrodromes" lacking in any real character.

I reckon Interlagos often produces pretty good races and it's one of a small number of F1 tracks that excites me because it looks a little bit dangerous.

Barcelona gets my vote. T-D-us

Know where you're coming from with Barcalona, its more of a bike track than anything and its frequently voted the best MotoGP of the year. The fact tht the teams spend their entire winter testing there means that they know it inside out and theres no surprises. IMO the Spanish GP should be permanently at the Valencia street track.

F1 teams should be banned from testing on tracks that feature in the championship except for official test days and using radically different configuations of the tracks e.g. Silverstone, the National, International, South and Stowe tracks would be allowed but not the GP or Classic track.

Kyalami, because of what they did to the old much better and faster Kyalami.

Old track in grey, now built over. New track in black

You could say the same about Hockenheim.

I know I'm in a minority here but to an extent, I disagree. As a circuit, you're right the modern A1 Ring did look like a very much emasculated version of the original, but.... F1 at the A1 Ring produced some really entertaining races and it was one I always looked forward to, especially compared to Barcelona, Imola, Hungaroring etc.

apparently Fuji. did any read what mark webber said about it?

it was pretty much "it's a sh*t track and whoever designed it must have been high on mushrooms"

i'd agree with him - any circuit with a 1km straight into a hairpin bend in order to increase (synthetic) overtaking, and then the rest of the circuit is just slow random corners designed to increase the minimum lap time to that required by the FIA gets the thumbs down from me. can't wait till we go back to suzuka, hopefully only one more year to wait biggrin

The point I was making was that the construction of the A1 ring essentially set in motion the chain of events which

a) killed the Osterreichring

b) stopped ALL motor racing at the venue

The place is derelict and abandoned now with no guarantee that racing will ever return.

Exactly what I was about to say.

I like Interlagos, it's got an 'edge' - along with Spa, Monza and Silverstone it's one of the last places that feels like a racing circuit rather than an 'Autodrome'. Oh yeah, because it is.

It certainly is a shame but on the other hand did the A1 Ring revamp at least give a stay of execution to the venue that it would otherwise not have had?

Either way, the track in either guise deserves better.
