Having watched the BTCC on the the one eyed god in the corner yesterday I was wondering why Rockingham isn't more popular with race series and fans.

There didn't look to be all that many people there (although I can understand if they left before the last race!) and why after its brief fling with Champ Car(IRL?) have they never been back nor Nascar?

Is it the layout, or the location or just crap publicity?

Firstly, the stands are huge so it's very difficult for them to look full, even when it's actually a good attendance!
Secondly, the powers that be are building a housing estate close by (something to do with Corby regeneration) and so limiting the terrible noisy circuit to only a few race weekends a year!
Shame as I love racing on that circuit. smile

A massive amount of people left early at the start of the third race as the heavens opened up. I braved it and stayed put and pretty much had rows of seats to myself. Its one of the best tracks as you can see it all from the stands. There's also plenty to do off the track

Weird - I was wondering the same thing this weekend.

Have the Rockingham Grandstands ever actually been full ? I went to a days of thunder event once and even then there seemed hardly anybody there.

Shame.

Quite a fun place to drive too, some nice corners on the infield even though it is a bit Micky Mouse

yes going from the fast sweeping banking to the tight and twisty infield can make you feel quite queasy!

Unfortunately not - had to work frown - though managed to catch the races on ITV4. The last race was fantastic!

I know, I'm supporting Adam Jones so we were well chuffed he managed to come 3rd. The rain was a shame as it held off all day (pretty much) but to see the mechanics come out after the first lap to change the tyres was pretty exciting.

The people from the track should read your comment, I complained to them about last year as it took 2 hours just to get off the efin car park. But they said its no different than any other track....

It only took me 20 mins to get out but I could have been quicker if they just let everyone get on with it and also let people turn right - whats that about?!

It's a great venue, a shame half the seats have never had an arse on them.

Dunno about IRL but the NASCAR schedule for the sprint cup is full* (36 points races between February and November and two non points races.) Also they are LOUD. None of this 108dbA @ 2/3rds maximum rpm nonsense for them hehe. So if they came to the UK it would have to be to a track with no local noise problems.

I'd love for there to be a race in the UK but it seems very unlikely it will happen.

  • they could usefully drop both Fontana dates to make some space I suppose.
