Road Registered to Race..

How stoopid is this; My local track here in Dubai have the requirement that, in order to compete in their 'Redline' and 'Knockout' events (like AutoX/SoloII and sprint events) the vehicle has to be Road registered.

Has anyone come across this before and found a valid argument against it?

Lots of time trial and sprint events run like that. Its to try and keep eveyrone on a level field in what is supposed to be budget, weekend fun. Its not fun when people show up in massively expensive race cars that no one can beat.

Roadgoing class also available at plenty of sprint & hillclimbs venues around the UK.

But they do allow Lambo-beating turbo'd Nissan Patrols! It seems that the locals are allowed to throw thousands of your oil-dollars at making these things into drag-beasts and I'm not allowed to run a 'sprint' car.

Not strictly road-registerd, but RGB cars have to be able to pass an MOT. My race car could be legal road transport with a bit of paperwork.

Couldn't you just clone it as a modified caterham that had had the chassis, engine, suspension and bodywork replaced?

the whole point of autosolo was that it is cheap motorsport you can drive a car to, compete without fear of hitting anything and drive it home. even in the UK you get some pretty warm cars competing in clubbie events. at our autosolos, you would struggle in a single seater, not least because the surface isnt that level (old airfield) but also because you wouldnt get up enough speed to make the aero work.

must agree though, spending £££ is hardly cricket but then its Dubai and money talks...

Depending on what car I'll get hold of, then I may give this a go next winter.. I'm surprised that there isn't a "sports libre" class - which would mean anything goes and a bit of fun.

The Dubai circuit have recently announced a summer sprint series (to be run in the evening under floodlights). There's a sports libre type class that will accommodate non road cars.
