You're right and wrong; yes it is his old car and yes that is the correct formation, it did race against Welch in STP colours and I think this was the year Welch won (or possibly Will Gollop) but I can't remeber.stockhatcher said:

Yes, you're right, it was - well remembered.I still have a load of those GPs on VHS back at my parents' house. They used to fill almost an entire afternoon of Grandstand with most of the heats and finals. Great days.

Echoing what has been said above it was a brilliant event, luckily my late Dad used to get invited each year as the person to explain all about the cars, track and drivers for some corporoate hospitality stuff and it was always a good day out apart from one year where it got fogged off!!

I could be wrong, but isn't the track Brands and isn't the corner depicted the one leading up to "Hoppie's drop" off of Druids...i.e. the road running along the back of South Bank?
Now on the basis that the circuit is Brands, Ahonen must be talking about Jonathan Palmer (who ownes Brands and more). I think that Palmer did have one or two guest runs in Welch's old car and perhaps that's what we are seeing in the picture. I can't recall who John sold his old Escort too either(can anyone help?).
I can't id the sponsors on the Quattro but odds on to be a Scandinavian entry. I also don't see "DSRM" or the colours to support the final RS200 being Mark's. Again, I could be wrong, but I don't ever remember Mark running an RS200 without DSRM sponsorship....

'89 was the fogged off year, I think. Dad and I used to go to the GP and the ERC round at Lydden to get our fix of Group B after they were kicked out of rallying and we were dead chuffed to find they had even more power in rallycross. The crowds at the GP used to be huge.

fairly certain the year is '87, i think JP did the event twice, once in '87 in the escort and the following year in a rs200. Tiff Needell used Gollops spare metro in '89, 90 as i think Gollop didn't get the silkolene sponsorship until then, and in '87 and 88 ran in the red and blue colours, i thnk he had a nightmare gp in one of those years. off topic but - :talking of Tiff, did anyone else know that his real name is timothy richard needell, for some reason i thought it was tiffany...
Right - time to dig out the photos for more memories - does anyone remember when Mark Rennison parked his car across the pit straight at Brands or when John Cross turned sharp right into the pitwall in his 4wd 911...or Rob Gibson in his Gucci Loafers trouncing the (4wd) opposition in his 2wd lime green 911? Or Erling Jensen in the Rover SD1....Warwick Barnes in the TR7, Des Winks in the red 911...that scandinavian father and son in the RS200s with the outrageous rear wings - Iversons????, Kjetil Bolnesset, Seppo Nittimakki, Matti Alimakki, Stig Blomqvist, Ole Arnesson, Dimi Mavropoulos, Per Eklund, Franz Wurz, Bjorn Skojstad....
Not forgetting other homegrown talent such a Mike Jennings, Mike Endean, Tony Proctor, Tony Bardy, Trevor Hopkins....Richard Hutton,

Any of you remember Shanke parking his car accross the track and losing it big style? These guys were real characters.
One of my favourite cars was the Alamaki Peugeot 205 T16, sounded awesome, Gollops Bi-Turbo 6R4 didnt half accelerate, it didnt look so good through the corners as the RS200 and T16's though.
