Now I'm not going to be sexist about this because actually I think good for her. She's worked hard through a number of seasons and it might even be good for the sport.

However, we won't hear the end of this all season and what's the betting she's testing an F1 car before year end.

Sorry I lied! It just goes to show that even if you do spend a lot of time posing for Maxim & Sports Illustrated with no clothes on, you can still be a good driver....couldn't resist.getmecoat

Like I said on another forum earlier, she has got where shes got by being a woman.

This is the first time she has won in since karting. There have been male drivers who outpaced her and won more than her and still she got to the top

(I must point out that there are some very good female drivers who have got to where they are by winning, rather than image/marketing).

She won the race at Motegi on a fuel gamble. She didn't have to fight on the track to get it. She can drive, but is she anything special? I think not.

Everyone knows she's no super-talent (in fact her driving standards have all to often received strong criticism from fellow competitors), but a win is a win, and she helps raise the profile of the series.

Motor racing is one of the only major sports where men and women can theoretically compete at the same level. So it's good to have a girl at the sharp end of the field as an example for up and coming young female drivers. It's true that she is the "token female" of the grid, but she has earned that mantle, and is perhaps slightly more deserving of it than some other female racers in the past that have gone further than they should have gone.

Good on her for getting her first win, and good luck to her.

(And no, I wouldn't - she looks too manly wink)

Well done to Danica but it's a hollow victory with a split race bewteen Montegi & Long Beach imo.
18 cars racing IRL in Motegi and 20 racing Champ Car in Long Beach, makes you wonder if the right series has won the battle.

After that road race in Florida where she couldn't drive for toffee? I'll take that bet.

She might not be able to drive for toffee but Bernie would love to get a half way successful woman Formula One driver. He'll probably bung some money at one of the small teams til they ag.......

Hang on,
Who supplys the engines to Indycar? Honda.
Which F1 team is in severe financial difficulties at the moment? Super Aguri.
Who supplys them with engines & has refused so far to cough up any cash? Honda.

Hmmm....scratchchin I think I might have found a way she might get a test....scratchchin

Think the LBGP was pretty much a contractural obligation, with (I think) a few one off entries, so I don't think any comparison can be made to be honest. CCWS would've won the battle had it been a viable series, It didn't, so obviously wasn't.

As for Danica, fair play to her. The hype surrounding her is a bit tedious, and it'll undoubtedly get milked for all it's worth in the run up to Indy, but a win is a win. She may not be the best in the World, but she's by no means the worst driver ever to sit in an IRL/CCWS car either, and she came in ahead of Castroneves, Dixon, Wheldon and Kanaan, who aren't exactly clueless. Some people are calling it a hollow victory because it was on fuel strategy, but that's part of racing isn't it? Had any other driver won their first race with a good fuel run it would be described as a great strategy, but because it's Danica it's somehow devalued? Hardly fair. I say congratulations to her.

I agree.

It is true that a girl has to prove herself ten times more when competing in what is looked on as a "male" preserve.

I read she was on the same strategy as Helio Castroneves, he's not that bad.
The trouble with Danica is she lets mistakes get to her, so they snowball into more mistakes
(hmm.. who does that sound like)

Racing driving isn't JUST about how fast you are. Its the overall complete package of what you can bring to the team.

The obvious pro's of having Danica in your team are obvious,

- novelty/publicity factor
- New sponsorship opportunities (cosmetics etc...)
- Easier on the eyes than any of the current crop of drivers biggrin

Cons

- Unknown how she'd handle an F1 car (they are different from anything else so maybe she'd be ideally suited to it) - a quick test would sort that out.

Depending on a teams needs she may be an ideal candidate. I know if I was running a small team in financial difficulty and she showed a reasonable turn of pace in testing. I'd throw her in the second car and use the revenue generated by her presence to develop a decent car and put the top driver I could get in the No1 car. As someone said, she may be ideally suited to the likes of Super Aguri.

What's the difference in the amount of physical effort required between F1 & Indy. If Indycars are only generating (for example) 2.5g in corners she would have a hard time in F1 at somewhere like Sepang.

They were both fking dull races, but the St Pete race shows the combined series has a lot of promise. Also, the IRL cars are a lot better looking than the DP01s - they remind me of 70s F1 cars with that massive airbox and fat rear slicks.

Danica can't win in a straight fight on track, and her crew know this so they have to make clever strategy calls for her, thats the only reason she has suceeded so far. Plus she can't drive for toffee on road/street courses.

Also the sports press have completely glossed over Graham Rahal winning at age 19 in his first Indycar race 2 weeks ago as well as the Champ Car finale at Long Beach.

Shes an average driver in a top car because of her gender, like the way Ralf got into a BMW-Williams seat because of his last name.
