Crazy Dave on being fined for missing drivers' parade

"I said: 'You've fined me 4,000 Euros, I've done 230-odd grands prix and never missed one except for Malaysia where I was ill and in the medical centre. So that's 4,000 Euros out of my children's inheritance!'
"There was no reaction from them. No smile or anything. So I then said to them: 'Okay, let's cut it to 2000 Euros if I pay in cash.' Still no reaction.
"So I then asked (FIA representative) Alan Donnelly if he could translate that, because that is somewhat funny in English. But he said it was only funny in Scottish..."
DC also revealed that the fine is going to hurt his fiancee Karen Minier just as much as it will him. "I've told Karen no shopping and next week no food on the table," he said. "We'll take the pain together!"

Shame that so many of these Officials are so Officious!!
When you think that D.C. is a driver doing a job, and that he actually showed he could still inject a bit of humour into a situation, it means he still is deriving enjoyment from the job.
Anyone remember the Senna stewards enquiry, when Dieter Quester was outside the stewards room where they couldn't see him wearing a Gorrilla Mask!! And Ayrton couldn't stop laughing. Don't think the Stewards were too impressed!
Shame really as in my book sport is for enjoyment and relaxation.

Gerhard Berger was the biggest joker of them all! Some of the stories...its when men were men and sheep were scared!
wasnt there one about spiders in a hotel room? The other version was 14 frogs and Berger said "So you haven't found the snake then?"

Guy sounds like he'd be a good laugh down the local.
It was just a shame he couldn't drive a racing car.I was at the Forumla 1 Paddock Club one year and looking forward to an interesting Q&A period with him and he was obnoxious. We, many of us fans, were too much trouble for him. Big laugh for him, no doubt, but for the rest of us it was acutely embarrassing. It was the year that they (supposedly) increased the with of the McLaren tub to fit him and our host reckoned that he'd have to find another excuse for failing.
Not my favourite driver. Wasn't it him who put Patrese into the air then into the crash barriers at full speed with a typical bit of inattentive driving? I remember a collission with another car trying to overtake him on the final lap of a race and his comment was something along the lines of, 'Oh, it was only tenth place so who cares.' Obviously the racing driver in the other car did.
I'm not a big fan of his as you can no doubt guess. he was a bit like Irvine. Talked a brilliant race and took the mickey out of all the other drivers but did little on the circuit.

Harsh, we need more jokers like him in the paddock, Brazil, Kimi, Martin Brundle situation was funny and how we all laughed that day, some are still laughing! Its all about psycology, Senna called Piquet a homosexual in the 80s, Massa said he would put Lewis in the wall "if he tried it again!"
Berger was a very good driver in the great scheme of things, he won races and he won them well, he was no Senna, Prost, Piquet or Mansell but on his day he was as good as Massa or Coulthard etc.

Not his fault.From his autobiography-
"I suffered a rather odd incident when my car hit the pit wall, after the electronics had mistakenly sensed a stall and raised the revs, slamming me into the brickwork"

t, nobody would survive for as long as he has in F1 if they can't drive a racing car.
