Corner naming...

Some of the more romantic circuits on the F1 scene have very romantic sounding names.

For example "Eau Rouge". But this just means "red water". Does anyone know the background of how this was named?

Mirabeau? Massenet? Blanchimont? Rettifilio? Piratella? Serraglio?

Do they mean anything or are they place/people's names?

Massenet was a French composer.

I thought Eau Rouge was now called "Turn 3". It's happening everywhere now. I really find this increasing loss of true meaning and character really sad.

Just been reading about the Turkish GP, and I actually quite like the name Turn Eight for turn 8 at the Turkish circuit - it has a kind of clinical menace to it.

I thought it was something to do with a water source, the spring where it starts is red? We've been to le Source Bleu, some where in France, I thought it was similar to that? I believe, its a natural phenomenon due to the water and the type of rock etc.

Yes, the stream under the track is red and last year's GP a number of people fell in it trying to avoid the queue over the little wooden bridge that crosses it
