Hi all,

First off, great weekend! Really nice weather and some great racing, met quite a few new faces which is always nice and I didn't seem to get any complaints fiddling around with people's data loggers throughout the weekend so thanks for that!

The good news is that I now have everyone's DL-1 sorted and updated to newest spec despite a couple of hiccups so I shouldn't need to touch them again unless some major change comes through from Race Tech. Since I haven't got coast down tests from most people yet, I've spent a bit of time going through the data and working out the numbers as best I can, then comparing my results to the estimated power people think their cars are putting out. For the most part, the numbers have come out remarkably accurately and are consistent which makes it easier to work with. I still need coast downs to check my numbers against to make certain that I've got it right, but the BHP doesn't seem to change very much if I move the figures up and down a bit so I'm confident that I'm there with 75% of the cars. I now have good weight data for all of the cars, but still expect to be tested at most events so we can keep tabs on everyone. I'll try and get you all weighed after races so that the fuel level will always be about the same.

The good news is that from my data, everyone is within the power to weight limits so no-one needs to eat any pies just yet. There are a couple that are getting very close and others that could comfortably add some power or go on a dietwink - Regarding these numbers, I won't give any out until I have a complete set of definite data for everyone (including coast-down data) so no-one can argue that the numbers may not be dead on. Once I have it all though, would you prefer that I tell you all individually or publish a table on here or at events so everyone can see everyone else's numbers? I think the latter makes for a more open series, so would be more inclined to go for that but I'm open to your opinions!

By the way, if anyone wants me to show them how to do anything specific with the data, let me know and I'll do my best to show you at the next race event. I'm still learning as well but I've got most of it covered! I'm also looking into further sensors at the moment so that oil pressure/under bonnet temp/shock loading/braking sensing etc can be logged. If anyone has anything they want to add in to the the DL-1 data for their car, give me a shout and I'll look into it for you. Be as imagineative (spelling?) as you like with this as there is pretty much no limit to what can be measured and logged by the unit and I think I'm right in saying it can interface with most ECU's as well to log anything in there such as air fuel ratio/advance etc so if you're having trouble with anything and want to keep an eye on it, let me know smile

Think that's it!

Nice seeing you at the weekend.

With regards to the finished data i think it would be best for the series if it was all published and free for everyone to see.

Glad to hear you both agree... Once I have it then I'll stick it up on here. Hopefully I'll have a good set of numbers after Brands if I can get a few coast downs. By the way if anyone has had any dyno time, I'd be interested to see it so I can compare with the Dl-1 power figures.

Oh and Mike, I had a better look at your data with a better way of reading BHP and it actually came out to within 0.05 of the figure you told me at Snett without me doing anything else to the numbers, then hasn't varied by more than 5bhp up or down across all of your tests/qually/racing! The extra bit I had quoted was the extra power of flywheel inertia coming in when you change gear. Bloody accurate stuff then!

Hi Nick,

First off I'd just like to say what a great job you're doing sorting all of this out. It's probably the most difficult job in the paddock and I think the way you have gone about the task and working with the teams has been excellent.

I'm all up for getting the data published but not really sure a public forum is the place to do it. Personally I'd rather see a board or something in one of the awnings at every meeting with the weight, power ATW and power ATW per tonne. If it goes on here we'll soon have some idiot not involved in the racing stirring things up purely for their own fun. If the data isn't available at the meeting then an email to all the class B and C runners would be fine.

That makes sense, thanks Cliff! I'll see if I can go with the race meet board and email route then... How's the car by the way?
