Afternoon guys,
Does anyone on here get involved in Pro Karting?
I currently work at a indoor karting track and one of my friends has his own Pro Kart, has agreed to let me have a go in it later. Apparently, is F-ing quick and is capable of 110 mph, twin engined i believe.
If i like it, i know he is considering selling it too, so i might just take it off his hands
So does anyone else have their own kart? Pics? Videos?
Would be very interested in ANY information.

I don't think so. Not unless its twin engines are GSXR motorcycle units, or it's a former GP kart. Definately not a pro-kart in usual spec.
I think a bit of 'chinny reckon' is needed to his sales spiel meself!

Yes, I race karts (currently heading towards winning the Karting Northeast Sprint championship 
). And to tell you about the Prokarts, they will not do 110 mph, they will touch 70ish mph tops, on a reasonable length straight. They basically have two Honda GX160 generator engines (some are tuned, and produce slightly more power), but will generally have about 5.5-6.5 bhp each.
But anyway, what you should do is; get down to your local circuit, watch a minimum of 3 races, talk to the drivers etc. find out what's running, how much it costs etc. etc. BUT what you most certainly shouldn't do is buy a kart, you don't have a clue about, nor seemingly does your mate, who has bullsh!ted you into thinking it will do 110mph.
What you could do however, is buy a old chassis, and an old 100cc screamer of a motor, and go eat up some Max's on a practice day. If you need to know anything more specific i.e. costs, classes, circuits, what you need to go racing etc. just ask.

pro karts use two honda GX160cc engines if i remember. they are usually good for about 80mph if well built and tuned. they offer good racing and are quite easy for beginners to drive being four strokes they dont stall if you spin and although they are heavy, they handle quite well and are quite predictable. they are however great fun, especially if you are in a group of them racing together, sure they lack the punch and power delivery, as well as the sound of a screaming two stroke but if you wanted to just turn up, race around, then go home, they are pretty much bombproof. they are also used in endurance races so you can get a lot of racing for your money. www.karting.co.uk usually has a few in hte classifieds for around £500 if you enjoy it.
Would Second that, if you have never done any karting the pro cart is a good way to start.

I have been karting in pro karts for over 10 years. all the above is good info they are good fun cheap and a great way to become introduced into the racing scene. ask your mate to enter it into a race preferably endurance and race it with him. if he refuses find out why? but as above just go to a race and see what it's about where are you based???...
Oh i don't know they all have their place.. I haven't driven an exige but the elises I have driven were good fun but not fantastic, the ZZR1100 powered kart my friend had however was very good fun Prokarts are virtually bombproof as said earlier and relatively cheap to buy. Yes there are faster / more agile karts but for starting out and dipping your toe in the water they're great fun There's always an element of oh you must have this you must have that on forums, but the vast majority of us have a blinking good laugh in prokarts for peanuts

You lucky thing Paul. . . only cos I have been too busy to get up there and chase your skinny ass..lol..). You will get more points this weekend too as I am recovering from a foot operation so I will be skiving at Croft watching the BTCC with some friends.
I will definately give you a challenge in the July Meet though...
I'm missing the racing just been too busy setting up a new company.

110mph????????? id like to see that!probably on the back of your trailer or in your van on the way home!being so close to the ground makes the speed sensation seem a lot more but i think its more like 50mph!
ive raced karts on and off since 1987 and every prokart ive ever driven was like driving a saab,understeer city!
the only bonus's of prokarts are the fact that they dont stall when you spin and they are cheap
but personally if your only ragging round for fun get yourself an old 100 National kart with a 100cc rotax motor and then you'll see what a real kart is like to drive

But i think the OP is talking about a massive engine fitted to a pro kart chassis, still 100mph does seem excessive for one.
125 National prob only do 110-115 with the right gearing on longer short circuits!
