Why do they keep the Sauber part of the team name still?

It was part of the deal initially although I thought that they were going to ditch it this season. The team is still based at what was the sauber HQ and the amazing wind tunnel was built and paid for before bmw actually bought them so I guess it reflects the teams origins.

most of the mechanics and the guys building the cars and making the parts are sauber, there is no reason to drop that part of the name when it's still a very big part of the team. peter sauber is still around too.

Same for Force India/Spyker/Midland/Jordan but they never carry accross the old name. Just wondering why a company as big as BMW won't put their full weight of their name behind the team.

It's called respect for the teams founder.

When Ron took over McLaren he didn't rename it Dennis.

yeah i guess that's true - tho eddie jordan left, and force-india-spyker-midland-jordan is quite a long name! stewart-jaguar-red bull...? they were more takeovers than collaborations tho, i guess that's it?

and i don't see what they'd gain, i think it's right to keep it - a lot of the guys are through and through sauber and would probably resent BMW dropping their name - it would be like not acknowledging their contribution to the team.

Slightly off topic but the BMW Sauber team is doing well this year, they're not that far behind in the constructors championship from second place.

Correct, but I can see McMerc overtaking them in the constructors championship.

lewis and kubi are both solid - we'll have to see who does the best for the rest of the year, keikki or nick...

It's that fantastic name game if it wins it's a BMW if it crashes/blows it's engine it a Sauber.

It's the same with Coulthard he's scotish, until he finishes in the top three then it's "nice to see a brit on the podium"

I think we'll only hear that when Hamilton is up there - Chinny Chin Chin isn't looking likely to get there this season.
