I'm secretly becoming an Alonso fan
Discussion
I'm secretly becoming an Alonso fan and I don't know why. I admire the guy for his determination, he always seems to strangle a car on track and even if it isn't the fastest way it looks impressive.
His race on sunday was ballsy and I admired his calls. They might have been wrong but at least he's not afraid to try. I also thought he came across really well in the ITV interview, he has a glint of madness and paranoia to him but haven't all the greats?
Since Schumacher left I've been wondering who to follow. As much as I like Lewis, and I really do respect him (plus he lived about 5 miles from me when growing up) there's something that doesn't grab me about him, I only smile when he does well, I don't 'grin' from ear to ear. When I hear his interviews I think OK, when I hear Alonso talk I listen.
Probably not making much sense so I'll conclude with I think I'm a closest Alonso fan, are there any more of us?

I'm a fan. He messed up last year royally but part of that lies with McLaren's poor management of him. IMO he's the best driver around since Schuey left. When he was at Renault the first time he was absolutely brilliant. As for Lewis, he's a quality driver but a total bore. I'm also becoming a Rosberg fan - a chip off the old block I feel.
I was starting to think about this too as I watched the Monaco GP, especially after he came across so well in that interview. I thought Alonso was great, but his little stroppy hissy fits last year really put me off him. Thing is, I can help but think that Lewis took advantage of Alonso's set up skills last year. Without Alonso's input, he may have not done quite as well in 2007. Maybe.

I think having Alonso's set up info and telemetry was a definate advantage last year and perhaps why he's not been quite on the pace this year. Heikki is quick but not Alonso quick IMO, so he can't extract that crucial information to gain any time.I've always admired Alonso's tenacity, he's more his own man than a lot of other drivers. I'm becoming a big Kubica fan also, he's a joy to watch, almost Villeneuve (Gilles) like determination.

Don't mind Alonso too much, but his 'I bring 0.6 seconds to the team' comment was ridiculous, especially as Lewis was faster.
And why was Hamilton so quick? Well in no small part to the development work that Alonso had undertaken and his innate ability to setup a car, which Hamilton clearly benefited from; until they fell out. It's no coincidence that the Renault was some way off the pace last year, whereas now the gap has closed considerably. Who could that be down to...?
I really don't like Falonso! He is an arrogant t
t! He is annoying, he is trying to do a Senna, the old "but I am Senna" line.
So what if he has won 2 championships? His Renault was vastly superior to either McLaren's or Ferrari's cars when he won. Ferrari did have the saving grace of having Herr Schumacher at the wheel.
He was out driven last year by Lewis and he almost put him into the wall at Spa at the start.

What nonsense.

Lets face it he was never going to be right for a team like McLaren was he ? , if the Ferrari seat was going I,m sure he would have gone there , the press had a field day with the Hamilton V Alonso - sour grapes were bound to follow , one thing you can,t escape...the simple statement : if McLaren had focused on one driver they would have won the championship , I just don,t think he,s as bad as the press like to make out , I like Hamilton but not as much as I enjoyed seeing Mansell giving it to them and it is becoming a bit of a gangsta cool thing to like Lewis isn,t it ? check out his entourage...P Diddy , Beyonce etc so on that basis I,ll enjoy Rosberg getting his just deserts just as much , a guy with plenty of ambition and talent , he did have an off day at Monaco though , where Williams really should have picked up a result.
