I popped in for a couple of hours after work today.
Almost 30 cars on the Indy Circuit - it was quite busy on the circuit but not so on the banking.
A really poor turnout - I guess the Daily Mail hyped fuel shortage may have kept some at home or perhaps because it was a Saturday. The race deserved a bigger crowd - walking through the pit lane it was evident the large commitment made by the teams.

Hmmm let me think, Brands Hatch Indy for a 3 hour race or watching the finest sports car teams and drivers in the world at Le Mans... Almost 30 cars on the Indy Circuit - it was quite busy on the circuit but not so on the banking.

1. The general public don't know it's happening because nobody promotes it.
2. The general public don't "get" endurance racing. They like quickfire short races. They have the attention span of just a little over a goldfish, and as soon as the first pitstops start, they can't comprehend what's going on, and readily head for the cafe, followed by home....
3. The die-hard endurance racing fans were somewhere else....... continue down the M20, through the pipe/over the ferry, then drive on the wrong side of the road for some distance until you meet lots and lots of similar minded people watching 45 cars circulating in the area of Le Mans.
Bad choice of date if you ask me (on the part of the ACO of course!)
The problem is James and co. could spend thousands/round trying to promote the events better and I don't think it would necessarily improve the poor turnouts, the problem is deeper than that and needs to be addressed on a national basis by circuit owners, msa and others in conjunction with the organisers, not just by 1 factio.If not then all that happens is that we end up paying extra for some old codger to sit at druids and eat his cheese and pickle sarnies and pork pies.

Personally, I 'm not that fussed how many people turn up to watch us, I'm just happy to be there racing and not farting around in France watching headlights 
I thought it was a great Britcar race, I'm bias to class 2 of course, but it was full of excitement throughout the 3 hours. Our new team mates in the number 50 996 were going great guns and in the process achieving fastest race lap until an unfortunate incident befell them and took them out of the race. That left Henry and Steve leading class 2 and us almost a lap down behind and the beginning of a near hour long chasedown by Jay Shepard in our car, the likes of which I have not seen in many a year. Every lap saw Jay catching Steve, second by second, and it was only in the last few of laps of what turned out to be a slightly shortened race that they took each other on. Steve defended brilliantly for a few laps and in true gentlemanly fashion kept it fair and safe. Jay had to wait for the Virgin driver to make a small mistake before he could push home his advantage which happened with only a minute or so to go before the red flag. We were all beside ourselves as we truly thought we had won the race, then the news came through that we had taken the win track wise but that there was a possible issue with pit stop timing. Both Henry and Steve were gracious and very complementary in what they thought was a narrow defeat, but we had miss timed our pit stops so ended up with a penalty and were therefore demoted to 2nd place, quite right too as it was entirely our fault.
Henry and Steve were the worthy and the correct class 2 winners, and their reaction to the circumstances of their win reminded me why I like racing with drivers who see honour, fair play and respect as an intricate part of racing, they are gentlemen to the core, well done chaps.
