There's a greater chance of British and/or French GPs next season.

The bad news is that Melbourne don't want a GP.

F1 Live reports that City of Port Phillip mayor Janet Cribbes on Wednesday called on the state Victorian government to scrap the event saying that it, "doesn't stack up on economic, social or environmental grounds."

I'm not in any way making assumptions just because she's female and used the E word but I bet there's few who would, er, well let's leave it there.

She reckoned that residents had had more than enough after 14 years.

She says: "Why should they have to suffer the noise and the inconvenience of a car race in a park for a race whose public price tag blew out to $41." That's about £20m in money.

One might assume that the jump in price from £16m last year - that's a 20% increase - might have more to do with it than the engines being a bit noisy.

Bernie will be jumping for joy won't he? doesn't he have a list of countries biting his arm off for a race? Russia, Dubai, several other oil rich countries with too much money?.

Herman Tilke can begin work on yet another overly wide and dull race circuit. Hoorah!

I make no comment on the picture. However, the councillor profile says this of her:

"Councillor Janet Cribbes wants to make sure Elwood remains a wonderful place to live. She wants to . . . boost the availability good quality childcare.

Janet has a . . . great passion for people and their stories.

Before completing a degree in Social Work . . .

She . . . managed the Rage Without Alcohol campaign,"

They say you can't make it up but I reckon they must have. I regard her profile as a victory for my prejudice.

It ends by saying:

"While(sic) Janet is serious about many things she still believes that laughter is the best medicine."

Just as well she's got a sense of humour.
