HUD visor thingy

Sorry, I don't know the correct term but the sort of thing fighter pilots use.

I remember from Tommorrows World from the early 90s that this was being tested for racing.

I'm just wondering why we don't have this sort of thing nowadays?

HMD = Helmet Mounted Display

They're magnificently expensive, especially when you consider that a racing helmet gets subjected to lots of elemental abuse (rain, dust, fumes, gravel, not to mention crashes!). A fighter pilot's helmet, on the other hand, sits comfortably within the controlled-atmosphere confines of a closed cockpit.
