Britcar 24 hours classes 3 and 4

Hi there, I'm doing the 24 hour in class 4 this year and wanted to see if there's actually going to be anyone else! Looking through last year's results and the year before entries for the old class 2 and 3 were well down last year. Anyone out there going to be running a car or are we going to be racing ourselves?!

M G A motorsport are running in class 4 with the beetle rsi we entered 2 years ago,and believe me just finishing is some achievement.A Radders what car are you running.

We're back on to thinking that we're going to run the Clio. I guess that'll be a class 4.

we're still looking at running an MG ZR if we can find a decent car to start with, Oh yes and the funding

We will be running an Alfa 156, which I believe will be in Class 5 having looked at the regs, which is for under 2 litre cars. Still have a couple of good value seats if anyone is interested......

Ah well at least that sounds like we wont just spend 24 hours getting hammered by the Class 1 and 2 cars!

Running a Porsche 968 that ran last year under County Classics/EMC. Not the fastest thing out there but pretty reliable and tough. Cant wait!

What sort cost is involved to enter a class 4 car? Also what sort of money would a driver have to pay to drive for an already entered car?

Around £4-5k should get you a decent drive but I've heard of people waiting until the last minute and doing deals for £3k!

A last minute £3k deal is great until you realise you will probably spend half of the race in the pits as the car gets repaired for one reason and then another and then struggling around on old tyres whilst the other 5 drivers have thier turn.

Last minute drives are almost always a nightmare because the team can't put the time and money required into it.

You should'nt view it as how cheap can I get it but how can I make the most from the experience. This race is after all getting more and more serious and you only get one shot a year so get it right by being ready!

You'd have thought that with the large number of Clios, VW Cup cars, Seats, Minis & even Porsche 944/968s or Alfas that have been built to race in their own respective series (both in the UK & in Europe) that more would have made it in to Britcar & that Classes 3 & 4 would be teaming with entries. I am astonished that Classes 3 & 4 are not the mainstay of the series.

Problem is that to enter any car in the 24hr race is expensive, [we did £35k in a class 3 car last year] the coverage you get from the media is pathetic, unless you are one of the top two or three cars, you dont even get a mention or seen on TV etc, none of this helps potential sponsors.

It is a great weekend and Class 3 and 4 should be very competitive, But Simon Mason is correct about taking a 'cheap drive' it usually does not work. To do it properly costs £20k minimum.

Simon you are lucky you have and have been protected by a very good team who have got money, those that want to do it with very little money and do, do finish and get good results, Golf dti 2006/2007.

The only protection in our 24hr entry was that I was planning who was going to be involved and doing what, when, where and how in every aspect of our entry 5 months before hand and the team were hard at work learning the car inside out so they could change drive shafts in 5 minutes and the gearbox and clutch in 30 minutes.

So my point is Alec not "so much" about the money but how much time and effort is put into the event before hand if you want to make a competitive experience of it. Granted we were spending more than some but if you take out the BS element of the entry (fancy catering, team clothing, garage flooring etc etc non of which I was involved with I might add) I know we did'nt spend much more than any other class 3/4 entry.

I can tell you we spent allot less than Belly quoted below but then a Honda is cheaper car to run than a BMW.

Ultimately, you can drive around for 24hrs or you can compete for 24hrs the choice is open. Personaly I think the whole concept costs far to much and has far to high a risk to just drive around for 24hrs or spend half your time in the pits fixing things because it was half hearted to start with. Once its up and running any sort of luck can fall and then the goal post's move to pure survival but to go in winging it is hugely risky waste of money.

2000cc cars have a multiple of 1.4, so 1998 takes it into the class above 2ltr. at 2797cc

I believe you have to multiply your cc by 1.4 for charged engines.

for a 2 litre, that would make 2,800 and therefore class 3
