How do I get tyre marks off my doors?

The title says it all really but I've done the mopping and the T cutting, what chemicals can I get the tyre marks off with without taking the paint off. Thanks in advance.

I did read on the internet that WD-40 is supposed to lift it off....

Paint thinners will remove the tyre marks... and quite possibly the paint too. Brake cleaner works perfectly well and will not remove paint. It also takes chewing gum out of carpets/clothes - useful to know....

I agree .... clutch/brake cleaner is the thing to use.
I must try it on chewing gum, I've been recomended to freeze the gum with an ice bag and break the gum out when frozen.

Clay bar works a treat I have used in on countless cars bikes etc and very rarely fails.

P.S. It is a lot safer than the other suggestions

Demon green from carplan or some bug and tar remover. Took the rubbing marks of my westfield in seconds.

Bug and tar remover. I use it all the time to remove the little bits of tyre that get stuck to the front of the race car.

Brake cleaner is fabulous stuff - it removes chewing gum without a trace by dissolving it. It also removes pink Play Doh from duaghter's favourite white suede trainers.... and its pretty good on biro....

... and it smells nice. I use gunk to get tyre marks off the side of my car post race. WD40 does work well though. Xylene will take it clean off, assuming you have a decent lacquer on your top coat, the paint will be fine.

White spirit works fine too.
