HAS ANYBODY BEEN TO MONZA?

Looking into going to a european circuit for the f1 next year fancy monza,camping at the circuit seems cheap enough,is it first come first serve or do you book,it does'nt say on website? can get some pretty cheap flights too.
Although not 100% set on monza does anyone reccomend a good euro circuit that's not too expensive to do? did silverstone this year ,but prices for next year have gone up a fair bit

I have been to Monza, although not for the GP. The event I went to was a fairly low key one (more clubbie size than British GT/F3) and have to say that whilst the place is a bit special it must be a total nightmare during the GP unless you have the magic golden tickets that allow you to ride in Uncle Bernie’s wake.

i was at the Monza gp a few years back but i preferred the atmosphere of Spa, and i think they seem to go more for camping there and make a party out of it. plus there are a lot less red shirts around.

Have been looking into spa also think that might be the best choice - easier to get to aswell, still plenty of time till next sept to organise it.

There is one rule you need to understand about Italy and it's organising of events, there are no rules, what ever you think you have arranged will probably be different to what happens on the ground when you get there.

Monza is great, as is the area around the circuit, you will enjoy it even if your best laid plans go tits up, which they will.

I went to Monza last year with a "magic golden Bernie ticket" which was nice although I have to say that because of the long straights it's relatively difficult to see much exciting action - TV viewing is better, but the hospitality side of things was great - stayed in a hotel in central Milan, I'm afraid I can't remember the name but it was two minutes walk from the station.

I've been to watch some F1 races at Spa in Belgium a few times and it was really important to know which area to watch the race from. This year I'm also going to watch the F1 racing at Monza and wondered if anyone's ever been there and can suggest which grandstand to watch from?
I've always had the Bronze access ticket at Belgium which has allowed me access to most of the track and allows for good vantage points so long as you bring your own fold away chair, Monza I'm told doesn't really cater for this and grandstand seating is the best way to go.

I was thinking of a seat at one of the following stands, if anyone could provide info on their experiences I'd be very greatful.
Stand 8 - At the first corner/kink towards the end of the start/finish straight.
Stand 13/15 - At the Ascari corner allowing you to see cars break and head towards Parabolic
Stand 1,4,5 - On the start finish straight

I've heard that sitting on the Parabolica isn't great due to the high speeds at which the cars pass by, having a TV at the front of the grandstand is pretty essential and from my understanding most of the stands at Monza have these.

I'll be happy to offer advice to anyone going to Spa this year as I'll also be there myself

I went in 2001. Stayed in Milan. Used the excellent train services right to the park. Fantastic atmosphere. Got onto the track at the end and under the big red flag which appears "from nowhere". Scrambled through some hedges to get onto the old banking - very eerie now. Great day out and well recommended. Just watch that one of the Milan airports is quite a way out of Milan so the taxi fare can be more than you expected!

Malpensa airport is pretty far out. Bergamo isnt too bad, and Linate is about 8k's out, IIRC.

Does anyone know what station to depart from to get to the circuit? Is it Milano Centrale? I'm really keen to go this year, and will be in the general area anyway due to visiting relatives, so it would be great to take advantage of it.

I live about an hour from Monza, go there 5 or 6 times a year, and was at the GP last year in tribune 5, the piscina stand.

What you have said is correct, the stands you have chosen are the best, you will be happy with all of them. Each has a good quality video screen in front of it and the commentary is multilingual.

There is absolutely no option but to go for a tribune/grandstand. You can see nothing without one, as the track is completely flat and there are no banks to watch from.

1/4 are pretty much on the start finish grid, which is the only place you will get any prerace entertainment. 5, from where we were, we could see what was going on, marching band, majourettes, but not much more than that.

5 is directly in front of the pit out, so you know what the safety car is doing. 5 is also quite a lot cheaper than the others you have picked (not so important if you are flying from the UK to see it!!).

One principle benefit of 1,4,5 is after the race, all the gates to the track are opened and the podium is over the track. We didn't get sprayed with champagne, but we could certainly smell it. The missus did not appreciate the 1km jog much though.

Parabolica is not a good place to watch. You are a very long way from the action.

PS. if you are in the piscine stand, and turn 180°, you look directly down into the Ferrari supporters club, which has the swimming pool in it. And 4 models whos job it is to sit by the pool all weekend in red bikinis. The missus called it sad.....

You can get there cheaply - fly to Bergamo (orio al serio) if possible (although there are buses from all airports to Milan centrale station. From Centrale you can catch a train which goes direct to Monza station cheaply and quickly. The actual track is a 5km free bus ride away from Monza station - or taxi ride. You can do it all pretty cheaply - especialy if you find the free services. Campsite (beside the track)prices aren't particularly cheap mind you - but much easier than a hotel or travelling from Milan everyday (trains are crazy squashed)- check out www.monzanet.it

We've just booked our flights to linate, only 20 mins from the trakc by all accounts. Although we went BA as I need to get back in a hurrh ryanair are doing some great deals at the moment. You should be able to get there and back for less than £100
