Discussion
Everyone's favourite emotive subject, and I don't want to cause a mass brawl, however...
Under current regs is a forced induction 4l RV8 eligible for Class B so long as it meets the PTW regs on a legal level and is within the spirit of the event on a moral level? Just curious to see if it would be the best use of my existing set-up when I want to upgrade classes.
Regards
Iain

Hello Iain.
I'd have to say no to a 4ltr in B. Somewhere in the dim and distant past forced induction was supposed to have a 1.7 multiplier in there as per most other motorsports i.e.rallying. Mine as a 2ltr is equivalent to a 3.4 ltr which is really why I had to run B, originally, nothing to do with power. Cliff's was right on the limit.
With the Hoc supercharged car this rule seemed to go by the board but that in my opinion should really have been a A class car, despite the power restriction. The rules had become somewhat vague by then.
If you wish to run a 4ltr forced induction it is equivalent to 6.8 ltr so you should most definitely be in A. The biggest cc you should be allowed to run in B is 2940 or thereabouts if forced induction is to be used.
With all the comments have been made in the past about turbo cars and there 800bhp at the flick of a switch I am a bit surprised that you are even contemplating running forced induction.
For me both parts would need to be complied with i.e. cc x 1.7 for class and power resriction of 300bhp per tonne. Oh, and no V8s in C as I stated last year.
Have a nice day,
Tim, 33

I always thought the factor was 1.4? I'd have to say no to a 4ltr in B. Ah, but Tim, you're forgetting the ability multiplier I have of cc x 1.7 x 0.58823529411764705882352941176471, which I think leaves us about even Have a nice day,

Joking aside, that's a very valid point re the multiplier. I'll get things clarified before I commit to that route.

what do you blokes think of a 4.7 AJP?
They never worked which is why you never see them in Tuscans anymore. They experimented with them in Peter Wheeler's car for the factory and found that only a very slight increase in power and torque was generated at the expense of woefull unreliability.
Essentially liners are bored too thin which results in poor heat transfer warping leaking liners etc etc.

I recall this sort of discussion was very prevalent in class racing in the past. I fully agree with the multiplier for forced induction which was a standard requirement and would put any forced induction B car into class A. What is obvious and attracted some discussion at Silverstone is that there is precious little difference between a good B car and an A car. Witness Michael Saunders Cerbera which is extremely well driven and right on the pace. I think there is a valid argument for the gap between the A and B class cars to be increased.
