Historic Rallying / Group B action from Silverstone Classic

Hi there,

Had a superb day at Silverstone yesterday for the first day of the annual Silverstone Classic event.

This event is growing by the year and with Motionworks looking after the organising and promotion for the next five years I believe this will become a must visit for all car enthusiasts.

Loads to see as usual, from early Formula 1 cars right up to no less than three 'Silk Cut' Jaguars out in the Group C event.

Will be back there again tommorrow to have a good look round all the static displays and car club stands.

Anyway here are some of my shots from the Slowly Sideways / Group B rally demonstration.

Couldn't help but notice there's a hint of understeer going on with that Audi Quattro. Just a tad.

Not all of them took the jump, but the No1 Quattro Sport that took it cleared it and made a perfect four wheel landing.

I walked away when the Citroen GSA made an appearance, out of apathy and because the F1 race was about to start.

Just to add that Trackside will have some great shots from the Peugeot that rolled today (and we were only watching the last 15 mins of the session) if he chooses to post them.
Although it has horrid to watch and my heart lept into my mouth.

Big relief to see the occupants were ok (the passenger was a bid dazed).

If it cleared the wood and landed on all 4 wheels on the tarmac, yes. If that was the the same jump as I saw I would have been in the background as that is where I was standing watching

Plenty more action today (Sunday) too, although some of it was a little expensive...











Driver and co-driver thankfully appeared to be okay, sadly the 205 wasn't...

The damage does look very light though so it will be out again soon I would think...its all plastic body panels Sso should be easy to unbolt and get a new set on.

Not sure that its a simple as that. I doubt that Carbon-Kevlar panels are available from the local Peugeot dealer! Wonder if anything else ie bent/ broken?

Yep, my bro and I walked over just in time to see him roll it. Really felt for the guy as he didnt seem to do anything wrong. I think not enough pace to slide and too much to get round..a nasty window of too much grip?

thought the rally stuff was a great bonus to an execllent event & brought back memories of watching the RAC rally on the beeb as a youngster seeing 6R4, RS200 et al in action.

The guy in mark 2 Escort was fun & the Lancia v cool.Was Tony Mason commentating?

Yes it was the one and only Tony Mason commentating... having him in one ear and Murray Walker in the other was almost too much!!!

Awesome pics, thanks for sharing. Sad to see the 205 T16 get damaged.

I know John Hanlon quite well (SWB Quattro S1), great guy. He took me for a spin in his A2 Quattro once, epic!.
I have had a little run in the RS200 in the pics too, another great car.

Oh how I would love a Group B car one day.....
