anyone know which rad would fit my old trevor
been advised its a range rover (safari spec) rad.
its original 1989 era
is the advantage weightwise worth the alloy option? confused

I'd have thought a rangy rad was a bit wide and heavy, but thats essentially whats in a griff / chim.

not sure about the earlier cars but the later ones certainly had an alloy one made by a place near silverstone ( name escapes me currently but i have it somewhere)

I recently had a couple made up to the original pattern which were reasonable cost. I'd assumed the earlier cars had the same rad as challenge cars all had to run to the same spec.

thanks g i have seen a few new fangled cars (POST 1990! ) and they seem to have different mounts to allow the oil coolers to be side mounted as opposed to my highly effective ones right behind the rad!laugh

Thats it. there is a rad frame that bolts to the front of the chassis that holds the rad ( docking engineering) and the oil coolers are side by side that. I've not seen anything earlier thats original

this is my dilemma.....if i start to modify the old girl in these ways it will cost an awful lot and probably still not be worth what an ajp car would.
so i am really tempted to keep it absolutely original, albeit slower etc,for nostalgic reasons ,and maybe see if i can hang on to the field!
what do you think its worth as it is? as ive already spent 3,500 on cage, seat mounts, seat, exhaust, tyres and loads of things to make it safer and useable??? and if i just want to be competitive should buy the lee caroline car!

You'll need to be quick as a prosective purchaser is coming to view said Lee Caroline Tuscan on Saturday.

Alan - I wouldn't worry too much about what radiator or oil cooler arrangement you use as I really don't think that will affect the originality as much as, for example, making the thing a two seater and shifting the fuel and oil tank to the boot.

Serck Services also make ali Tuscan rads, and naturally the coolers...

Your existing car should be fine and competitve in class B, especially if the aero changes to the regs are made.

For class A then you do want something like the Ex Caroline car..

hi andy i am glad to see someone looking at your car...may save me a fortune biggrin
i am moving the oil tank to front of passenger footwell/bulkhead area....it is getting closer to original ! just worried about spending too much on the car...as you know its easy to just get the best of everything but so far ive just made it safer and updated safety stuff etc.

i may just stop spending on improvements and use it for future classics /sr&gt/sprints/hillclimbs etc where it may be more competitive/cheaper than the tvr challenge

if i can get my money back may consider upgrading to an ajp car but i would need at least 14k now including spares (quite a few bits now.. bonnet,18 inch wheels,5x16 inch wheels which seem to be expensive, uprights, etc)
regards

Hi Andy
Are you using the same ali rad with the Chevy or a bigger one ? I'm in need of an ali rad as my current one is right on the limit with my Chevy. Any idea of how much they are from Serck ?

Cheers
Neil.

Hi Neil

I'm using the Serck ali rad with the Chevy but we've not yet tested so I can't tell you what the temps are doing. We are sponsored by Serck so I'm not sure of the rad price, but I can find out for you if you want?

Kind regards

Andy

I'm running a Escort cosworth Ali Rad. in my Tasmin Race car, the space was for a Classic Landrover, same as Griff Chim, 400SE etc.

But the cosworth one is a lot cheaper as more are made. was told it was good for 500 BHP. it seems to keep the car cool so far. had it running at 2000 RPM on my drive, for 20 mins. so no air flow, due to motion, had twin fan on the car.

unless I have a major problem tomorrow, I have the car at brans on sunday.
