Sky TV Coverage, where is it?

At a guess, it fufills what is akin to a contractual commitment if it was promised to competitors at the point at which they paid their entry fees.

It enlightens people! Ie: Topgear/Britcar 24hr which was repeated again on Sunday evening on BBC2

It promotes & show cases:

• the series
• the cars
• the drivers
• the teams
• the sponsors
• the suppliers

The last five of which Britcar & other series can not do without. More importantly all of Britcar's competition has TV coverage & in the next two weekends (despite the crunch) both BGT & GT Cup will have TV coverage and their largest grids so far this year.
Team/drivers will become more selective next year & go where the preceived value is, and if TV coverage is preceived by them as important, then that should be addressed.

In a more serious vain, Yes, it is quite important for all the reasons given in the last post, but, Just having a deal for coverage is not enough, you need to have a degree of editorial control particularly in something like Britcar with it's class structure. If left to their own devices, the TV Production company will only concentrate on the top three of class one, chuck in the odd 2 second shot of one of the other class cars, and then, only when they have an "off" Interviews are limited, car decals with sponsor messages are positively avoided.

As for a driver interviews you need to be under 25, spot free, in trouble with the C of the C, preferably having just had an argument with your co driver or a Marshall and sporting a spiky hairstyle that never gets effected by having a helmet on.

I haven't raced much in Britcar this year but I do remember at Silverstone (I think) James saying that all rounds apart from Spa would be televised and how important TV coverage is for the series and the teams, drivers & sponsors.

Seems a bit of a U-turn now to say "What does TV do for motorsport" !!!!

Also, what has happened to the TV coverage of all the rounds apart from Spa......JT ???????

Last year the Dunlop great and british offered full tv coverage to the mini7 club should they support there events, the club did and got no coverage what soever, i had a very upset sponser who put £40k into the car on the strengh of the proposal.

It also gives leverage to those trying to find sponsors by being able to quote numbers at them about how many people will see their logos on the car etc. So it may not do much for the sport ( except for the obvious things like bringing it to the attention of more spectators, competitors etc)

As someone who competed in the 24hr as their first Britcar event, I am now looking at trying to fund some more races for next year in the series as I enjoyed it wholeheartedly, being able to talk to sponsors about TV coverage would be a massive boost. Besides, you even carry the Skysports logo on the Britcar website.

I wonder if Bernie ever asked the same question. Its right up there with "what did the romans ever do for us?"

But if Sky Sports spent the whole 24 race weekend filming, giving interviews etc then surely it's in their best interests to show it?

I find it irritating that I've not seen anything from the event at all on their Motorsport programmes. Mind you, not even Craig (from Sky Sports) knew when his efforts were likely to be transmitted; he said he thought it would be "early-October". Well it wasn't on "World Motorsport" last night and I don't think it's scheduled to form part of "World Motorsport" next week either. I've resorted to asking Sky Sports themselves and am waiting for their response...
