You wouldn't bet against it, with him being 87 points ahead of Stoner.

The race at Indianapolis today showed the balls that these guys have, the remnants of Hurricane Ike eventually red flagged the race as the winds were too strong, and blew safety equipment away, but these guys were still flat out racing regardless.

IMHO, I can't think of a better champion than Rossi.

It could go wrong but it looks most likely that the championship will be his again. Great champion bow

Yep, he certainly seems to have it all sewn up. So glad that whiney bitch, Casey Stoner won't be wearing the number 1 next year.

Was well pleased to see Nicky Hayden back at the sharp end and, more importantly, thrashing Pedrosa. Hayden's had such a ridiculously rough ride at Honda the last few years - in fact it's been one of the most disgraceful displays by a racing team since Frank Williams' treatment of Damon Hill after he won the WDC - it was great to see him showing them that he's still a great rider in such an emphatic way. Can't wait to see him on the Duke next year.

O/T: When are MotoGP going to get rid of bloody traction control?!

Bit of a foregone conclusion now, so no question mark needed!!

he onlt needs 14 points from 4 races, and Stoner needs to win all 4.

I doubt that he'll lose it under those circumstances.

No question, he's a truely great champion, with some good competition too.

Yeah, what did they do to him?

I never understood how he became world champion, he's very good but not that good. On the other hand, I thought Colin Edwards walked on water when he was in WSB, how on earth does he manage to keep racing at that level with his results? What's that I hear, very good sponsors? Yup...

Rossi's the most talented current racer in any category IMO. Up there with Senna in terms of skill. I'm really pleased that it looks like another title for him. Go 46!

Massive favouritism towards Pedrosa. The problem Honda has is that there is an 18kg difference in weight between their two riders, and a huge difference in height (Dani barely cracks five foot. Seriously) so essentially the team has to decide which of the riders they're going to design the bike for. For some insane reason, after Hayden won the World Championship in 2006, they decided to develop the bike for Pedrosa in 2007, even though it would only be his second year in MotoGP, when Hayden had been with the team for four years and had given them their first World Championship since Rossi left in 2003.

Don't forget, Hayden finished 5th in his first season, 8th in the traditionally difficult second season, then 3rd, then 1st. So the championship was no 'flash in the pan'. Then Honda started building a bike for Pedrosa and he dropped to 8th in 2007 and is currently 8th in this year's standings.

Pedrosa on the other hand finished 5th in 2006 (same as Hayden's first year - but less impressive given that Nicky came from Superbikes in the States and Dani from the lower capacity GP bikes), then jumped to second in 2007 on the Dani bike and will finish third this year. It's not like he's miles better than Hayden was, on a bike that's essentially custom built for him and him alone.

Just as with the Ducati Stoner bike, the 'proof' is in the satellite Honda riders who are 9th, 14th and 16th. Yes, Dovizioso is in 5th, but he's lighter and barely any taller than the tiny Pedrosa.

As Hayden said recently, "I don't even think they'd notice if I stopped turning up".

They've not been really developing the pneumatic engine, because only Nicky was using it. Although, weirdly, now Dani's on it they're several k's faster than the Yamahas down the straights.

Pedrosa's switch to Bridgestones was the most emphatic demonstration of his power within the team - apparently they didn't even ask Nicky if he wanted to swap too.

Hope that clears it all up!

Exactly, Rossi crashed out of contention in the final round.

Very true

Hayden won it through consistency. Always competative, never gave up and very good at sliding the back of the bike.

A championship is won through very good consistant results. It is not haydens fault if the others couldn't keep it on track like he did.

He even had the set back of his teammate taking him out of a race in a dangerous pass attempt.

Haydens treatment by HRC is crazy. HE was the world champion yet his pipsqueak teammate always had preferrential treatment. It has been capped off this season by Dani getting bridgestone tyres 2/3rds of teh way through the season

I'd have to say that you'd have to put Sebastian Loeb in there.

Rossi is a great talent, but I stopped supporting him over the silliness with Sete. He lost my respect, so now I support Stoner, because he rides a Ducati.

Forget his ill advised post race comments, Stoner is the only rider that has graced this sport in years who is capable of beating Rossi.
That is what you should be glad for, Motogp is once again competitive, rather than the foregone conclusion before the season begins of a Rossi white wash.

Stoner riding the Bridgestones to their first victory in 20 years was a master stroke, then Rossi following his lead to keep up, Stoner pushing Rossi to a level we have never seen before, all good entertainment for the fans.

Come on now Mr Kipling, would you have it any other way? Give the world champion credit where its due.
