Formula for racing

What is your formula for a successful racer?
I'd put forward 1/4 Skill, 1/4 Balls, 1/4 Car, 1/4 Luck (weather, not getting Sutiled etc.)

So what's your formula?

too subjective and too dependant upon category.
you would have to weight things like car, power, driver (to include things like age, experience, skill etc), circuit, weather etc to come up with something like a sensible answer.... luck doesnt enter into really, if you are fast enough you are at the front and thus unlikely to be taken out, if you are near the front its also fair to say your car is well prepped and thus reliable... all too subjective imho...

I agree with you. Apart from luck, Raikkonen had some terrible luck in his Mclaren days which probably stopped him being the champ sooner.

I've had three people with an 'in' in motor racing say to me in the last three weeks that the most important thing is not to be black. Racism, I've been told, is strong in F1.

I've no personal experience of this but it seems odd. Of the three, I've known two for some time and trust their judgement. The third chap is involved in the technical side was very firm in his opinion.

"It's like going back ten years." one reckoned.

I'm not sure I can believe it as I've always thought that ability will beat all.

As I say, I have no knowledge of whether this is right or wrong but it is the opinion of three people who have no connection with each other.

Shame if it is true.

That doesnt make sense though as part of a formula to be a successful racing driver. Most F1 drivers have been white yet the majority of those havent won much at all..
