He wants a common engine, gearbox etc. for F1. WTF is the point of this idiot holding any position of responsibilty, he has obviously lost his marbles a long time ago.

I'd be better for the sport if the manufacturers went. Yes, even Ferrari!

Funny how he mentions a german car company as his example.

I still dont understand how a 10 year engine development freeze is good for the sport or technology? In 10 years time they could of created far greener more fuel efficient engines.

But still he will leave next year and hopefully sense and order will return

He mentions VW possibly because they're not involved in F1 at the moment. Red Bull seems the most obvious option when their Renault contract runs out.

This to me just shows what contempt spankie has for the teams/manufacturers.

we already have a spec series (or two) like A1, and it's like watching paint dry...

I must say I am not a fan of the current engine rules, it would be good to have different types of engine on the grid, V8's are all well and good, but they are very 'ordinary'

They could call it Forumla Ford. Oh, no, that's taken. How about Formula No Technology? Or Formula Not Thought Through? He could have all the cars with esactly the same body as well, couldn't he? Perhaps a Nissan Micra? Or a coffin? That would be handy to bury F1 in.

The good thing about this is that if he did do something so completely against the ethos of F1 then the manufacturers would move out, start their own series and we'd be away from FiAsco interference.

Someone on another thread criticised Jackie Stewart for trying to get in the media all the time and saying stupid things.

You don't think that prostitute he bought for five hours who hit him with a stick was an F1 fan do you? Perhpas she didn't say We are Aryans (because if she had there's no way Eady could have suggested there was no nazi element to the squalid scenario) but that We are enraged? Makes more sense.

That 5% bloke has been digging himself a big hole on another thread. I think we've found the perfect use for it.

I love the fact that spending on technology by manufacturers in F1 is "irrational", yet spending by the FIA President on prostitutes and hitting women with (in my opinion) Nazi connotations is OK.

Please Max, leave us alone and leave us now.

Do you realise, you said that out loud?

Why not just have a standard car with standard engine?

That is WHAT I have been saying on here for EVER.

It is the driver I want to see race not the cars. i.e. GP2 with 200 extra BHP.

He does have a point, only a little one though!!
The same cars would mean the best driver comes to the top, hopefully it'll be more affordable and a better spectacle.
On the other hand though you lose the uniqueness of each car and the designers expressing themselves but the cars have got so complex and samey due to the regulations that they are all pretty similar now but it would be a shame to lose the uniqueness but then with teams like Brabham and Lotus etc falling by the wayside does it really matter?

The meek are inheriting F1 and they don't care about varied engine horsepower, engineering achievements and so forth.

If they only care about driver performance then let them have it, there'll always be some other kind of motorsport that will demonstrate and let us appreciate engineering achievements.

i think a race series where everyone at the 1st race is given the same car and then the teams have to develop the car throughout the season to get the best out of it but with strict budgeting to promote ingenious ideas and tech to make the cars faster

A series with

2 F1 type races
2 Saloon Car races
2 rally type rounds
2 Hill Climbs
2 Bike races
2 Endurance races
2 truck races
1 desert raid on bikes and in cars

15 rounds in total
Each drivers worst result is dropped to allow for those who perhaps have no experiance in a disciplin.
Who every wins all that is the best allround drive!

Why do these threads always degrade into a slinging match about how everyone has devised the ultimate racing series ever?

Disagree entirely. Equal equipment does not make good racing. When you get a bunch of drivers as good as the F1 guys there is so little difference, there will be no overtaking at all becuase at any oen time all the cars are as good as each other. The grid will be determined on Saturday by who can drive a 10th of a second quicker than someone else and then that will continue throughtout the race - the only opportunity for 'racing' being if someone makes a mistake - and that rarely happens.

In order to overtake you need a car advantage. That doesn't necessarily mean a Ferrari rather than a Force India, it means a small nimble car will be better under braking and cornering, whereas a longer, more powerful car will have a higher top speed. These sort of variations over the decades have produced fantastic season long battles. It is only the ever tightening regulations which are making the racing dull and boring.

I can't think of a single series which had once been open to different manufacturers, ever avoiding becoming tedious after converting to a single make series. Infact, aside from Formula Ford where the inexperience of the drivers makes for lots of mistakes, I can't think of an interesting single make, single seater series.

Mix it up, don't tie it down.

Maybe Max's ideal is that they all look like this:

At least it would reflect his idolised period in time and political tendencies (in my opinion).
