I think we can agree that to be WDC you have to be a good all-rounder but which drivers have a particular talent that makes them stand out?

Qualifying

- Mansell, Hamilton

I think there was an article in Motorsport a couple of months ago that tried to work out who was the best ever driver in the wet. Their conclusion was that it was Button.

He is having trouble in the wet this year because of the Bridgestones.
Button's super smooth driving style does not put enough heat into them to get them gripping in the wet. He is having the same trouble in the wet this year as Kimi and for the same reasons.

I suppose the question is, are Bridgestone going to alter their tyres as a result of these problems. If more teams are having problems with getting the tyres warm than those not it would make a lot of sense.

With only 4 races left though, it's probably not worth the effort this year. I guess we'll have to see what sort of issues people have next year, though I'd suggest that with less downforce, cornering speeds will be down and the problems could potentially be a lot worse.

I have a feeling that the style issues brought up by drivers, in reference to tyre temperature, is just an excuse. Being able to adapt is part of being worldclass. If the solution were that simple and they were just stubborn about doing it their way, they should be sacked.

Renault has similar problem but you don't see Alonso complaining. He gets the job done - aggressively warms up his front tyres and he almost binned it into the pit wall entry in Spain!

And what about Australia 2006. Everyone struggles with front tyre temperature and yet Alonso carries on with no problem with a Renault supposedly with heavy rear weight bias.

There's no one better than ATM than Alonso when it comes to warming up their car on the reconnaissance lap/SC period.

It's the same for all the drivers... Those that adapt, will do well. Those that only do well in certain conditions, won't do as well...

But that was at the start of the season when he wasn't looking forward to. It's not as if he's called the current car a truck (yet) and given the boot. He's enjoying it a bit more than expected though obviously he doesn't want to turn round and develop the Renault as in previous years.

Whatever you think of him he's still top quality when it comes to driving an F1 car.
