Hmmm... Doughnuts

After watching the Porsche Supercup today and the winners celebatory doughnuts - I wondered to myself what happened to doughnuts in F1??

Obviously with the engine rules these days its only likely to happen every other race, but even so, is it banned??! Or just frowned upon?? Or are they just seriously dull in F1?

I recall Kimi pulling a quick one at Spa last year - but thats it!!

Not just engines that have to last but also gearboxes, so it makes no sense to do them this year.

Ah yeah forgot about the gearboxes. But even so, they didn't do them before the long life regs??

Just a guess here but i suppose they dont want to put too much rubber from the tyre onto the road because it will make the car weigh less. Remember they go so far as running on the marbles to pick up a tiny bit more weight so must be pretty damn close to the limit.

the F1 rules state that you have to drive straight back to parc ferme without stopping or taking detours.

Probably a bit pointless as there's generally few speccys anyway...


I suspect the C of C's used by the BRSCC would throw a proper tantrum anyway if they saw a winner enjoying himself.

They are, iirc, not allowed at all these days.

There was an Aston driver last year (Bentwood?) at Snet who did a 'stoppie' (locking all 4 wheels) as he crossed the line to win who was given a fairly weighty fine (and possibly 3 points?).

Whilst they are great fun and most love to see them there is also an element of danger (other's not seeing/reading the situation) and slaming into the winner, there is also the time it takes to do all this which can push the time table back which on something like and F3GT weekend could even mean the 5 minutes extra it takes the winner of race 5 to get back to the pits just cost the time to run the last race of the day to full distance...

the commentators at goodwood talked about them been banned in F1, and they where told not to do them aty goodwood this year, didnt stop one of the red bull cars though!!! i believe webber was driving.

I thought it was mainly to do with post-race tyre analysis

The FIA specifically banned donuts years ago, well before we had the control tyre malarkey, they banned it from WRC at the same time too, in 2002 which was why Panizzi did his victory donut mid the last stage on the Catalunya Rally that year. Achieving the minimum ride height for post race scruit is always benificial too. Tough to do that with the rears through to the canvas

Tyre analysis, engines and gearboxes aside, would it not be possible to have a designated "celebration area" for doughnuts etc? With the modern tilke circuits there is acres of run off area in which to do so - therefore posing no risk to other drivers on their slow down lap.

This is all wasted breath anyway - fun? character? F1? You rarely hear them spoken in the smae sentence, except those, like me, that like to point out the lack of the it!!

I fear everything in F1 is built to discourage doughnuts even the rubber they would burn off is valuble to get the car back over weight nevermind the engines and gearboxes!. However last race of the season if you finish 4th or even outside the points come on grow a pair and do some doghnuts Id love to smell some burning F1 rubber again.

Pretty sure they banned doughnuts in F1 on safety grounds (or some nonsense) years ago. And as others have said with the current regs it would'nt be advisable anyhow

Last I can remember in F1 was Alesi in a Ferrari at Monaco! (I think, bit hazy)
