There was no intention of any "gains" from this - apart from ensuring bigger TV audiences in Europe whilst at the same time satisfying Bernie's lust for even more money.
On the whole, loathe though I am to say it, the idea did seem to work and a generally "entertaining" contest ensued. I still have grave reservations over the safety aspects of night racing and am sure that rain will be a major worry if and when the race coincides with some wet weather.
It was good to be able to see sparks and exhaust flames again although Brundle's prediction that we'd see glowing disc brakes didn't quite happen. Why was that, I wonder?

would have been better if the track had been a decent one, but there was no real racing as such and the camera angles were severly limited

I don't think any of the camera angles were low enough to see far enough through the wheels?I guess that's because of the horrible high concrete walls all around the circuit.

Because all the teams now use those wheel covers (you know, the moveable aerodynamic devices that Ferrari introduced)garycat said:

Given the design of the circuit it was always unlikely that there would be an accessible marshals post on that part of the circuit because of the concrete walls and the spectator fencing. It's a bit like the pit straight at Rockingham.
What I don't understand is why they didn't get a FD (Fast Doctor) car to him quicker, we saw what appeared to be a med car being deployed with the saftey car, I think from the pit exit (might be wrong - where was the safety car deployed from?) and if so that had to do a lap to get to him but there must have been FD cars closer to him, they should be all around the circuit.
Most marshals know that drivers often have enough adreneline to get out of the car, but if they are injured it doesn't always get them very far. A driver running across the track unassisted, even under safety car, scares me.
