With Fernando Alonso's victory in Singapore it makes 7 different winners this year. So without trawling through the records, can anyone make a guess to the last time there were 7 or more different race winners in one year.

Not true. Rosberg won the title with only one win but four drivers won two: Prost, Watson, Pironi and Arnoux.

My guess is 1999: Schumacher, Hakkinnen, Coulthard, Irvine, Herbert, Frentzen and Salo (well he would've done if it weren't for Ferrari team orders).

total guess - When Rosberg won the WDC on very low points - as above, '82 (IIRC was it 42 points, the lowest since Surtees).

Don't know if that was the last time though.

I win. I've just looked it up and Coulthard won in Aus as well so that makes 8.

Spot on. I thought it was much further back than that, missed one off though. Coulthard won as well that year in Melbourne. So 8 that year. And before that there were 8 winners in 1985. 11 Winners in 1982 btw too.

So which year had the fewest winners? I would guess 1988 with 3. Senna, Prost & Berger.

1952, if you discount the Indy 500 which was part of the championship season back then there were only 2 winners that season (and only 7 races) Alberto Ascari won every other (6 wins in a row) with the exception of the season opening Swiss GP won by Piero Taruffi.
