To all those that talk about the fact the BC24 clashes with other events. With the busy motorsport calendar that the UK is lucky to have it always will so when would YOU suggest the BC24 was staged in order to maximise potential spectators?

Bearing in mind - practice has to be before 10pm and thus renders Silverstone useless in the summer for night practice because of stupid noise level regulations.

We had a choice of BTCC final or britcar 24 and chose britcar as it offered more value for money and because it was cool to be a small part of something special. Think it could always clash with something and people will just have to choose.

There could be the prospect of an earlier date ie. April/May

IMO late in the season is better - it is such a big event for participants and I saw it as the climax of my own 2008 activity.

Certainly the option to camp is attractive -- it will draw the Le Mans type followers, ie those to whom beer/stamina/petrol/noise together with modest camping costs make the perfect weekend away.

Early in Sept gets my vote and if needed I feel sure some sort of relaxation on the Friday night qualifying could be negotiated if started well in advance eg 9 to 11. Our team were almost all done in the first hour anyway.

I think it should stay where it is but try and pick a different weekend if poss to BTCC etc - good to have the 24hr near the end of the season in my opinion as its the highlight of the Britcar calendar

april/may time is already congested with endurance events, so probably a no go.

I think the sept date is fine, just need to avoid clashes i possible.

TBH I am not sure that a clash with the BTCC is really the issue - I doubt if many competitors, or spectators, would worry about that (Jonathan Ridley-Holloway being a notable exception this year - 2 x Clio cup races at Brands and 2 x night time stints at Silverstone!!!!!). BTCC events largely attract a different sort of crowd, I expect. Avoiding clashes with major events like Goodwood or Oulton Park Gold Cup is important as they are one off events that do attract very large crowds (and the media)with diverse interests but of most importance is to avoid clashes with other endurance events such as Brit GT, Nurburgring 24 and (maybe) other VLN or Dutch/ Belgian Super car rounds (if this is possible) as it is from these sorts of series that potential competitors for the Britcar 24 (from outside the existing UK Britcar community) will come from.

I think avoiding a clash with historic events such as Goodwood is essential. A lot of competitors also own historic race cars (and more will) due to their rising value offsetting racing costs and also the high profile of the eligible events.

I'm not sure I'd agree that the BTCC is a different Audience. Most of the people I spoke to at Brands wanted to be at Silverstone if it hadn't clashed, including some of the BTCC drivers. Even the series Boss, Alan Gow, has raced in the 24 hours up until this season.

As for the date, I've not seen a calendar for the British Gt championship yet so its hard to choose a date without knowing when they are running.

It's not true.Ask JT.
September is Britcar 24hr race.If you keep with the negative comments JT might just say stuff it and where will we be then.
Nothing is perfect and that's how we like it.

Terry,

JT has been telling folks that the date is moving to April - and the Britcar website now "confirms" it:

http://www.britcar24hr.co.uk/cms/news.php?item.712...

It appears it is true!

You gotta love them. On the Britcar web site the rules are posted for the 09 24hr and still take no acutual account of the cars they have and the race date.......17, 18, 19 APRIL 2009!!!!

The bit I love is once more our Honda STILL very comforably fits class 5 rules as it did this year, but I can bet my bottom dollar we would be made to race in class 4 again along with all the other class 5 cars that are too fast for the class even though most fit the class rules for 5. Now what I don't get is why not write the rules for class 4 as the ones for class 5 and make it something we can all work within??

Oh my head hurts.

Well that's a bit annoying, especially as it clashes with their own event at Snetterton... granted the original plan was provisional. But even so there would be a 2 week gap either side of the 24 to prep/reprep the cars?
Surely not?

I agree, but as I understand it (and I stand to be corrected here) JT pretty much got stitched up on the date.

Would that be the BRSCC, or Silverstone doing the stitching.

All in all, it leaves much less time to get something organised from a would-be competitor sort of thing.
