Indeed. It's not as if Alonso broke under any pressure last year. I mean, blocking your team mate in qualifying and threatening to shop your boss to the authorities if you don't let him be number one strikes me as the behaviour of a rock solid personality.

only because he could see that the whole team was against him....wouldnt you fight back under those circumstances? The guy is a fighter.

The guy is a good driver, but he is also incapable of living in a team where he is not the clear number one.

This limits him to Renault and Ferrari. McLaren like to operate on equality.

Errr pretty sure that in a recent interview, David Coulthard recalled a meeting where Ron Dennis referred to DC and his mechanics as "them" and Mika's team as "us".

David Coulthard was at Williams, in a championship winning car, and didn't win it.

David Coulthard was at McLaren, in a championship winning car, and didn't win it.

David Coulthard is in a Red Bull, and is routinely beaten by his team mate.

Can you spot a pattern in this? It is natural for a racing driver, when excusing his poor performance, to blame anything and everything except himself. How unlucky for Coulthard to have been in three teams where he was, in his own performance terms, the number two.

Sad, but very, very true. F1 is serously big business and Ron Dennis has serious money tied up in it. Like most team principals, he always has, and always will, favour the driver who is most likely to give him the best return. DC's claims echo those of Eddie Irvine and Barrichello who both complained about being number 2 to Schumi.

Wonder if Ferrari thought that when they had Schumacher? Let's look at every championship run-in (ie: final round) he's been involved in, shall we?:

1994 Cracked
1997 Cracked
1998 Cracked
2003 Won, but only just
2006 Cracked

On the plus side, Hamilton isn't costing McLaren $100 million

It was good to see him back to being his old (joyful) self when interviewed before the race this morning.

He is however very limited to where he can take his talents and ego in future years - he is best sticking with Renault.

Agreed. Look what happened with Prost and Senna! Ron favoured Senna so much, it forced Prost to leave!

No, the whole team was for him, every inch of the way. Trouble was they were also with his team mate in equal measure and that's what he couldn't handle.

Alonso is the best out there, but he he has to feel that the team are around him and him only. Quite simply, it is the reason why Ferrari haven't signed him, because with Massa there they wouldn't give FA the commitment he needs and they don't need the aggravation that FA took to McLaren.

FA would even spit the dummy out with fisichella, of all people. But anyway, FA will stay with Renault because he can't get into a ferrari, Mclaren or BMW because of his split personality. Both Ferrari and BMW (and McL too if you think about it) could have had him but have exercised the option not to, even though they probably all acknowledge he is the best.

And FA will save Piquet's career, 'cos he will be an ideal team mate for Alonso.

I suspect that Ron has no regrets whatsoever about this. He is the team boss, why would he want someone in a key position in the team who tried to undermine all that the team stand for and have achieved? Why would he want someone who would deliberately jeopardise the team results. Why would he want somebody who threatened the team?

At the end of the day, a team requires trust, and once that has gone you don't have a team. Because of what he did within the team Ron could not trust Alonso and let him go knowing that he was losing a good driver.

He has even had to remind him about certain ways in which he had infringed confidential issues he is obliged to keep quiet about this year.

So if McLaren was such a bad team enviroment then how come DC was the longest serving McLaren driver ever ....?

Both him and Alfonso acted immaturely last season, this season you cannot say he's on equal terms with Kovi, he's clearly been the no.1 driver from the beginning.
