Idea for getting new people next year

After all the talks I thought I'd Start a Thread on Idea's to increase the numbers and profile of the TVR Challenge.

If everyone puts there idea's I'm sure we can boost the profile.

Some of the Idea (Some mine some discussed in the meeting)

New website (with high profile name and kept very up to date)

PH Car Show 2009 (Could we arrange some presence here) (I'd be willing to take mine, be handy to have a higher profile car also, this way people can see you can enter on a wide range of budgets)

Try and Arrange TVR parking at the races for the spectator's that come in there TVR's look more impressive it they are all together.

Added to the above arrange a Drivers Q/A meeting so the spectators can ask us questions and feel more involved)

Have a one off try-out for anyone (mainly for the sprinters) (would need to be agreed with John and BRSCC) but any one person can enter but they would not need to join BRSCC or the championship, this would save them £200-£300 which is a lot if you just want to see what it's like. we may even be able to loan them other equipment that they may need, like a transponder etc. if we all put £10-£20 in each we could use this for a championship spares / loan equipment.

After the Great success of the gokarting maybe we should arrange a Championship V Sprinters or TVRCC members gokarting so we can get to know them better.

New blood into the series is critical to keep momentum going forward. A central web site where drivers and spectators can easily find up to date information is a good idea, personally I'd like to have an up to date entry list for each round for instance. tvrmonster do a good job of coverage as part of their site, I could do something similar on tvr-racing.co.uk if needed but you need driver / team contributions to make it interesting.

As i said in the meeting I think rules stability is very important to attract new guys in.

I'd like to see more racers carrying video cameras, they're cheap enough to buy and we could pool the video to make a half decent video report of the weekend (I have 3.1 seconds worth from Oulton if anyone is interested...lol). Posted on a web site or youtube and I would have thought you'd attract visitors and raise it's profile. I've seen a couple of series trying to do this on youtube.

But it won't be easy. You have to remember that the series had centre stage at Rockingham last year with a very high percentage of all TVR owners present. The grid was a really good size, the drivers put on a great show but I'm not sure if anyone joined the series this year on the basis of what they saw. My car was also on the BRSCC stand to promote the series so we had some presence at the pistonheads show this year.

I like the video footage idea, and I know others have mentioend video cameras this year as well. Any recomendations as to a good ( cheap and reliable package?) perhaps if enough of us purchase we might get a deal.

The Ginetta boys use the Oregon Scientific ATC2000 for their judicial cameras http://www.oregonscientific.co.uk/prod_atc2000_all... you can pick them or newer models from fleabay for less than the prices shown on their website.

I just use a bog standard DV tape camcorder which is fine, a CF card type would be better to avoid break up over kerbs etc. A couple of hundred quid.

that oregon one looks good for £100, do you know if it records sound as well?

Just had a quick scan through the instruction manual, and yes it has a microphone.

You did get me as a result of the Rockingham meet, and I think Keith and Tim not 100%

The other thing we may be able to try and do is get a TVRCC trackday the day before a race we could also use this for testing.

very good idea as long as we had our own testing session seperate from the road cars, however most of the circuits which offer testing the day before a meet would also offer the testing to other competitors at that meeting as well.

However, if we dont ask, we dont get..

The series has done tremendously well attracting completely new blood into racing and I see no reason why that should not continue.

I know Martin Crass would like to return to and Alan Parkes is interested in joining in - so for the first time in quite a while you have more experienced drivers wishing to come and race. That is a really good reflection on the Championship, and I must say that it had far more of a buzz about it on Saturday than it had last time I raced in it.

Some good ideas about promoting the series - a website is the obvious first step, but does require some effort to keep it current and interesting.

Video cameras - its so easy to put stuff on You Tube and link to now that this would be an easy win. I'm pretty sure Jes Bunce has some direct knowledge of hardware so would be worth talking to.

Track days - the TVRCC has moved away from dedicated own days so that may be one of the trickier ideas to implement.

Anyway, well done all on Saturday. The cars still capture the imagination of spectators - particularly the ones in orange who can be the hardest to please!

Mixing race cars with road cars at a track day is not conducive to good relations between the two parties . However I think there is some merit in the idea if well-managed. In any marketing exercise, you have to identify your market and clearly one of the potential sources of new competitors are the TVR track day runners. So some kind of "Tuscan Challenge Roadshow" which could be taken to the track days and possibly Speed Championship events to give people a flavour of the cars. The race cars could run in separate sessions and if anyone has passenger seats, take some people out for some exciting pant-wetting stuff.

There's also nothing stopping the racers entering some sprints and mixing it with the Speed Championship regulars.

I'm going to be doing some articles in Sprint over the winter to try to tease more people out.

My intention is to have two seats, to take potential sponsors out on track and refuse to stop until they sign a cheque...but I'd be happy to take folks out...having said that with me behind the wheel folks might get the wrong impression to the once we're trying to convey.

I've always done the majority of my testing on normal track days with no problem..

I think a dedicated website would be a great start. At the moment I have little to no idea when its on and where.

I also think TVR's should have a dedicated parking space. Used to love the Tuscan Challange at Castle Combe used to get a damn good turn out of Tiv's and would be parked right next to the track.

The website is already under way and the car parking is a good idea, however I think the car club used to organise it ( but I could be wrong)

It's generally been the local RO's that have organised the parking at the circuit closest to them.

We did float the Idea of a supporters meeting point. something with info on the series and a place to get a cup of tea, where we could do all the presentations etc. we can borrow the tvrcc ezi-up for that but it needs someone to pick it up - set it up - and take it back plus someone to man it..

That's where things fall down, in 2006 I did take the ezi-up to several rounds only to have the RO's back out of organizing anything once I'd arrived at the circuit, admittedly it did come in useful once or twice for my own use, but that's not the point! I'm loathed to do the same again and waste 4hours and 120miles of fuel per race weekend of my own time and money collecting and returning the thing.
