I attended a domestic dispute after a request from the attending WPC to find an injured woman refusing to support a charge against her boyfriend who'd fled. She owned a business with a big double garage.
I gave her advice, put her in touch with the various agencies and, in order to try and calm her, asked about the pictures of GP cars on the wall. She said, with some contempt, "They're his."
About two or three months later she phoned asking for me to help her. She made me a cup of tea - a requirement - and then said that she was selling up and moving but had a problem. She took me out to the garage and it was an Aladdin's cave: lots of DFV bottom ends, worn tryes, various clothing, pictures and other bits and bobs. It seems the ex boyfriend, who had not returned, was a mechanic with various F1 teams and used to sell the various items of 'memorabillia'. 'Van loads.' according to her. She asked me if I wanted to have any item but I was not willing to put a DFV in the supervision car.
I advised her to contact one of the dealers - I had an Autosport/or Motor Sport in the car - which she did although i phoned them first to ensure they didn't take advantage. She phoned me just before she left and when I got there she had a little brown parcel wrapped in grease proof paper. She was leaving the next week and asked me if I wanted to buy the last item, a DFV piston. I won't give the price.
She said she'd got a fortune from the dealer, which I advised her to return to her ex after taking a reasonable cost for the injuries and storage.
So for me my favourite is a signed photograph of Jim Clark, but the DFV piston crown is also treasured..

mine is a signed photograph, original not copy (ie taken from original negative), of murray walker, also signed by the photographer. originally taken for F1 magazine. its a close up portrait in sepia tone..

The broken/used parts from the racing cars i build tend to end up on the wall of a bar at the Nurburgring, where we stay when racing out there. Only things i keep are the champagne bottles and trophies. Maybe i should start selling some of the used parts from the CanAm cars on eBay. 
I've got a nice signed to me photo from Eddie Jordan of their first car, in the 7UP livery at Monaco, thats still one of the best looking F1 cars built to date. I also received a postcard from Ari Vattanen back when he was recovering from his bad crash on Dakar, that was a surprise at the time.

Though Mansell is my all time hero and I havve his autobiography and picture signed by him but my most treasured item is a signed picture of Greg Moore.
Previously I never understood quite how Gilles Villenueve and Stefan Bellof were revered posthumously but since Moore's death I've come to understand how a driver died too soon from an unfulfilled career, never attained the glory they richly deserved and brought joy to millions.

I also have a small piece of a barrier covering from Monaco '98.
It was after the famous fight between Schuey and Alex Wurz when late in the race Wurz's suspension let go in the tunnel and he hit the barrier at the chicane.

Ive got a used wet F1 tyre that was used by Senna at Williams. Also got one of the doors off the peep hole at Silverstone. It was just sitting on the floor on the bridge with padlock and everything!

The melted alloy remains of some mechanical part of Per Inge Walfriddson's Stratos that crashed and burned out in Brechfa on the 1975 RAC rally. I made the majority of the melted remnant into the "Chequered Career Trophy", awarded annually by the Stratos Enthusiasts Club.
The only other surviving part of the car is the rear numberplate, which is owned by one of the Chequered Flag Team mechanics, Ron Pellat.

I have a set of Rothmans Williams ear plugs that I helped myself to on my way through their pit garage at Jerez whilst avoiding the Spanish security types that had noticed a mate & I in the pitlane after quali.
He got Michael Schumacher's autograph on a 20 pound note, about 5 minutes prior to this.
Michael - You must think a lot of me to get me to sign a 20 pound note.
Ginger Ken - I do, but I've got Mansell's on a 50.#

In fairness he didn't have to come out of the garage at all to sign autographs for the 6 of us that were there so it was generous of him. Mind you, after Ginger Ken's action I didn't get 1.
